Welcome to Polygonâs first weekend special of the new year. The pickings are a bit slim as we kick off 2024, but weâve still managed to scrounge up a couple of deals you should check out. If you donât feel like dropping even a penny on a new game, Epic is offering Marvelâs Guardians of the Galaxy for free through Jan. 11. This is one of the best narrative-driven Marvel games in existence, and it features a surprisingly deep story with branching paths and numerous decisions that impact how things play out. The voice cast and performances are amazing, and as an added bonus, this version of Starlord is 100% Chris Pratt-free. Finally, it wouldnât be Guardians without a killer 1980âs soundtrack, which includes hits from Pat Benatar, Def Leppard, and many more.
Somehow, James Cameron is at least partially responsible for what might be the best open-world game out of Ubisoft in years. If you want to pick up Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, the console versions are on sale for $49.99 at Walmart and GameStop (was $69.99). You can also pick up the PC version for around $46 from the Epic Games Store during its holiday sale.
We canât deny that the Meta Quest 3 is an awesome piece of hardware. Itâs currently the best way to experience VR, but at $499.99, you may be looking for a more affordable way to play games like Resident Evil 4 VR, Beat Saber, and Superhot VR. If so, you should know that the 128 GB model of the Meta Quest 2 recently received a permanent price cut to $249.99 ( half the price of a new Quest 3). While the Quest 3 features a more powerful processor and better resolution displays, the Quest 2 still offers comparable battery life and access to the same library of VR titles.
Right now, you can pick up three select 4K Blu-rays at Amazon for just $33. This sale unfortunately doesnât include any box sets or Steelbooks, but still features a robust and varied catalog of classic titles to choose from. Some of our favorites that shine in 4K, like 1917, Mad Max Fury Road, and Jurassic Park, are all eligible for this deal. If you feel like watching something a little more contemporary, Prime members can digitally purchase Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part 1 in 4K for $9.99 (was $19.99), or rent the movie for $3.99 (was $5.99). You can also find the 4K Blu-ray for Avatar: The Way of Water on sale at Best Buy for $24.99 (was $38.99), which includes a collectorâs Steelbook case and an extra copy of the movie in the standard Blu-ray format.
