The MCU Already Setting Up Marvel’s REAL Next Thanos Theory Gets More Evidence In Latest Release

Spoiler Alert! This article contains spoilers for Marvel’s Echo. The theory that Kingpin is becoming the Marvel Cinematic Universe‘s new Thanos has become even more convincing after Marvel’s Echo. Following Jonathan Majors’ exit from the MCU, there has been much theorizing about how the franchise will unfold. Kingpin’s re-introduction into the MCU has prompted speculation that he could become the MCU’s future primary antagonist – and helpfully, Echo has brought even more evidence that this could well be the case.

Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin triumphantly returned to the MCU timeline in Hawkeye, before becoming the main villain in Echo. The infamous crime lord is confirmed for Daredevil: Born Again, meanng Kingpin is firmly established in the MCU, with some suggesting that he could become the next Thanos. Reddit user phantom_avenger has observed a similarity between the two villains, which bolsters this theory.

Echo’s Backstory Arc Gives Kingpin’s Thanos Comparison More Validity

A surprising similarity between Thanos and Kingpin has been spotted in Echo – their paternal relationship with an adoptive daughter. One image from Echo, in particular, is notably similar to an iconic Thanos and Gamora storyline, in which Kingpin leads his young ward away by the hand. Kingpin and Thanos’s gargantuan physiques draw further parallels between the two foes, with a striking resemblance to the scene in Avengers: Infinity War where Thanos adopts Gamora as a child.

This lends further credence to the theory that Kingpin could become the MCU’s street-level Thanos, placing the villain in comparable circumstances as the franchise’s greatest adversary. Numerous upcoming projects are planned to depict Marvel’s street-level heroes, and bringing Marvel Comics’s most infamous street-level villain into the fray is already proving successful. While this could certainly solve the franchise’s Kang problem, it would also evolve Echo’s character in a complicated and compelling way, turning her into Kingpin’s version of Gamora.

How Echo Being Kingpin’s Gamora Changes Her MCU Story

If Echo becomes Kingpin’s counterpart to Gamora, her trajectory in the MCU could drastically change. Gamora and Thanos became essential aspects of each other’s evolution, much like Kingpin and Echo have become intertwined. If the crime lord were to become the MCU’s next primary villain, Echo’s role in his past would surely play an essential role. Maya’s future in the MCU could become substantially more central, given she has the greatest emotional connection established with the prospective foe. This could, however, be lethal for the upcoming hero.

Thanos killing Gamora was a landmark moment in the MCU’s Infinity Saga, and considering the emotional and complex relationship between Kingpin and Echo, a similar climax could be on the horizon. The two have already faced each other, and if they remain in the franchise, a definitive final confrontation must surely follow at some stage. Consequently, the more successful Kingpin becomes as a villain in the MCU, the more tumultuous – and potentially deadly – Echo’s future will surely become.
