Highlights
As November comes to an end, the holidays are fast approaching. While the next few months are all about sales, for many players, the season is about giving. Many gamers will be shopping around for the perfect games and accessories, and the Epic Games Store is getting into the spirit a bit early by offering two games just before their yearly Mystery Games promotion begins. It’s rather surprising to see, as this current week only features one game, presumably because the Epic Games Store didn’t want to give away too much too soon.
For those who are curious about the Epic Games Store’s free games, and its Mystery Games promotion, the store updates with its freebies every Thursday at 10 AM CT. This is when the previously announced free games on Epic Games’ storefront are made available, and new ones take their place. Currently, Deliver Us Mars is up for grabs at no monetary cost, with the only fee being that those who wish to have the game are signed up on Epic’s digital platform. When the Mystery Games promotion goes live, the Mystery Game will be added with an hourly countdown to when players can expect to know when the game unlocks. While fans are waiting for more freebies, they can look forward to getting Jitsu Squad and Mighty Fight Federation for free soon.

Jitsu Squad is a unique arcade beat-em-up that looks to Marvel vs Capcom for inspiration on how to make its 2D animation into a true spectacle. It has all the expected features fans would want, such as 4-player co-op and fast-paced gameplay with transforming specials giving Jitsu Squad a fair bit of its own personality. With 13 original characters and a few guests that have their own unique upgrades, there’s plenty of replayability outside the main campaign. Top it off with how Jitsu Squad takes inspiration from great fighting games and anime to make its visuals really pop, and players are in for a classic, fun, chaotic time.

Even though it was released as a fighting game in 2021, Mighty Fight Federation serves as a unique 3D fighter that takes many cues from arcade-style beat-em-ups. It delivers on everything that fighting games are known for, from character-specific arcade mode routes and endings to an entirely new special gauge mechanic using “hype.” The hype dynamic allows players to knock back opponents, create new combo chains, and release devastating special attacks. As it sits as a 3D fighting game while taking plenty of notes from the classic 2D ones, it’s a unique mix that stands out as its own thing that fans should check out.
Between both games, there’s an interesting similarity. Out of all of their possible guest characters, both of these titles feature Yooka-Laylee from the game by Playtonic of the same name.
Needless to say, next week on the Epic Games Store belongs to fighting game fans as those willing to try out Jitsu Squad and Mighty Fight Federation can walk away with two different and unique experiences to try for no extra cost. It’s hard to argue with the price of “free,” especially since both games are relatively well-received by those who had the chance to play them prior. While this may leave gamers who don’t like fighting games waiting in the wings, they may find something to love by picking up these titles anyway. If not, then they won’t have to wait long at all for another chance at something new as the Epic Games Store Mystery Games promotion should start once December rolls around.
