Warning: SPOILERS for Blood Hunt #5
Doctor Strange’s mantle as Sorcerer Supreme is one of the most powerful and most important stations in all Marvel Comics – and Marvel just revealed how Strange could potentially hand the title over to any character under the right circumstances. In this way, the publisher radically redefines the meaning of the Sorcerer Supreme role, and along with it, Doctor Strange’s essential place in the Marvel cosmos.
Blood Hunt #5 – written by Jed McKay, with art by Pepe Larraz – features an undead Dr. Strange bequeathing his Sorcerer Supreme title to Doctor Doom. Realizing that only Doom can save the world from the vampire horde, Strange gifts Doom with a portion of his living soul, and his title along with it.
In the process, Stephen tells Victor that this fragment of his soul’s purpose is “to bond to your own, in the same way as Clea did when I died.” With that one line, Strange changes everything fans knew about Marvel’s magical hierarchy.

It’s only a technicality that allows Doctor Doom to become Sorcerer Supreme, and if it works for Doom, then it could work for anyone.
In giving Doom a portion of his soul – along with the Sorcerer Supreme mantle – Strange explains how Clea, an accomplished sorcerer in her own right, underwent the same transformation so that she could become Marvel’s Master of the Mystic Arts. While both Doom and Clea had valid reasons for filling Stephen’s boots, this makes it clear that they weren’t chosen off their own merit. Imbued with Stephen’s soul, both Sorcerers Supreme claimed the title on the technicality that their title still belonged, at least partially, to Dr. Strange.
If such a maneuver could gift both the benevolent Clea and the sinister Doom the mantle of Sorcerer Supreme, it radically changes the nature of the role, and Stephen Strange himself. Doctor Doom has long been considered one of Marvel’s top magicians, even once vying for the title of Sorcerer Supreme the old-fashioned way. However, that previous worthiness has no impact on Victor’s finally assuming the mantle. Rather, it’s only a technicality that allows Doctor Doom to become Sorcerer Supreme, and if it works for Doom, then it could work for anyone.
Doctor Doom has long vied for the title of Sorcerer Supreme, and after years of plotting, Victor has finally become Marvel’s Master of the Mystic Arts.
However He Got The Job, Doctor Doom Is Fully Capable Of Being Sorcerer Supreme
