[#item_full_content] [[{“value”:”Though it doesn’t get the same attention as the blockbuster film catalog, or the big budget streaming shows on Disney+, there’s only one thing that has accounted for more than 100 hours of stories in the modern Marvel universe:
ABC’s fan favorite live action TV series Agents of S.H.I.E.LD.
Along the way, the ABC series hit on a ton of Marvel Comics lore, from Robbie Reyes’ Ghost Rider, LMDs, Hydra, time travel and more. Seriously, I will die on the hill that S.H.I.E.L.D. is a very good show. We also got one excellent spinoff during the show’s run in the period piece Agent Carter starring Haley Atwell, reprising her role from the first Captain America film.
But there was a modern-day spinoff the network was so serious about they peeled two fan favorite characters out of the main S.H.I.E.L.D. cast to break them off and set them up for the new project.
Then… did nothing with it.

That proposed spinoff was called Marvel’s Most Wanted, which would have starred Adrianne Palicki as Bobbi Morse and Nick Blood as Lance Hunter, a pair of star-crossed spies on the run after taking the fall to protect the rest of their team.
The pair were main players during the second and third seasons of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. For context, the series retained some core cast members from start to finish, but the supporting cast ebbed and flowed with the story year-to-year. But to be clear, they were fantastic in the main cast and it’s a shame they didn’t stick around for the full run, all things considered.
But the creative team felt so confident about the pick-up for Most Wanted, they wrote Bobbi and Hunter off the mothership series in a backdoor pilot, essentially, setting up their new arc for the series.
ABC shot a pilot, which set up the story of the ex-spies and ex-spouses on the run and on their own. Burned to spy agencies and just trying to survive. Along the way, they make an uneasy alliance with a rogue adventurer who agrees to protect them so long as they help with his mysterious agenda. It had big conspiracy twists, mixed with a set-up for weekly adventure and action.
It sounded fun!
Sadly, ABC opted not to pick the series up, and the pilot remains locked in a vault somewhere. To this day, it’s never leaked.
For context on the timing, this was when Marvel was going all-in on the Defenders-verse shows on Netflix, and developing Marvel cable projects like Legion and Runaways (plus Fox’s loose, X-Men-ish series The Gifted).
While at ABC, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was starting to slip in the ratings, and Agent Carter was wrapping its two-season run on the network. So the idea of tripling down on another spinoff seemed to give the execs pause.
So what does all this mean for the mysterious new Disney+ spy series Zodiac? We have no idea. But it’s useful context to know if the studio decides to tap back into the spy characters and stories they’ve already established in and around the events of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Fans remain hopeful we might get to see stars like Clark Gregg and Chloe Bennett return — but why not Palicki and Blood, too?
There’s gotta be room for a few more spies in Zodiac, right?
