Warning: Miles Morales: Spider-Man #12 Spoilers Ahead!
Blade might be just another superhero from Marvel with superhuman strength, speed, agility, and healing factor, but he is undoubtedly one of the most famous and biggest fan favorites to date. Previously played by Wesley Snipes on the big screen in the Blade trilogy, the mantle of the superhero renowned for his stoic and hardcore persona will now reportedly be passed down to Mahershala Ali, and Marvel is in talks of modernizing his personality for the same.

As seen in the recently released Miles Morales: Spider-Man #12, it has been made apparent that Ali’s big screen Vampire Hunter just might be wildly different than Snipes’ as Marvel creates an unexpected ‘tender’ change in the character.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe‘s Blade is widely famous for his stoic personality, as previously shown both in the books as well as on the big screen. But with Mahershala Ali on his way to take on the mantle now, it seems that Marvel Comics is trying to modernize the character.
The recently released Miles Morales: Spider-Man #12 saw the teaming of the Vampire Hunter and his daughter Bloodline with Miles Morales, amidst which was seen a rather unexpectedly tender father-daughter moment.
While Morales was shown napping in the backseat of the car after having disposed of R’ym’r the Immortal, Eric Brooks was shown sharing a dad joke with his daughter while conversing with her about ‘the dark out there’. He said:
“And for the occasions you run into something you can’t handle on your own… you call dad to take a stab at things.”
As surprising as this cheesy comment sounds, what was even more surprising was Bloodline calling her father a ‘cornball’ for it. So far, all of these traits of the Vampire Hunter where he cracks a joke and shares a ‘tender’ moment with his daughter are new, and all pointing at only one thing:
Marvel is aiming to modernize the fan-favorite character.
Why This New, Sudden Change For Blade?

Blade has evolved a lot ever since he was first introduced as a supporting character in 1973 in Marvel Comics’ The Tomb of Dracula #10. Not only did he earn his own comic books on the way but, he has his own film series on the big screen as well, having been played by Wesley Snipes.
Yet, throughout the decades, one thing remained constant, and that was the Vampire Hunter’s hardcore to the core and stoic persona. However, that too seems to be on the verge of change now, considering the recent Miles Morales: Spider-Man #12, for one to count.
Marvel is seemingly turning him into a cheesy dad who shares a vulnerable moment with his daughter and cracks a joke or two (and smiles as well) from the too-cool-for-school Daywalker that he has played so far, and it actually feels pretty good.
As for those who are wondering where these sudden traits have appeared from? Well, Blade always possessed them, it’s just that Marvel Comics decided to bring them to the light only now to make him seem more appealing to modern audiences as a much more multi-faceted superhero than he has ever been before.
So far, Mahershala Ali‘s 2025 movie of the Vampire Hunter seems to be heading to a good view if it perfectly follows the character’s comic book appearances!
