Wolverine
is about to publish a milestone 400th issue this year, and Marvel Comics is pulling out all the stops to celebrate the occasion. The oversized anniversary issue will feature two stories starring the most popular X-Men character, taking readers back in time to an early adventure for Logan, while also continuing the main storyline currently playing out in latest issues of Wolverine.

Marvel.com shared a special look at Wolverine #400, which features a main story from current Wolverine writer Saladin Ahmed and artist Martín Cóccolo, concerning the Adamantine, an ancient force that’s gunning for Adamantium – including the unbreakable metal coating Wolverine’s skeleton.

The second story comes from recent Eisner Award-winner Daniel Warren Johnson, who takes readers into Wolverine’s past for a tragic tale of revenge set in Japan. “What’s better than Wolverine with claws?” Johnson teases of his story, answering his own question with: “Wolverine with a katana.

Marvel’s Super-Sized “Wolverine #400” Is A Massive Milestone For The Legendary Hero

Wolverine has learned more about the adamantium coating his skin in his current storyline; meanwhile, several other adamantium-based heroes, including Lady Deathstrike, Constrictor and Cyber, find themselves under the sway of the Adamantine. Writer Saladin Ahmed explained what is in store for Logan in Wolverine #400, also teasing what’s next for the Wendigo:

A big anniversary issue is always a great excuse to go crazy with reveals and unveilings, and we’ve taken that to heart here! In this over-sized issue an old enemy drives Logan’s new pupil the Wendigo to the brink, Logan finally comes face to face with the cryptic entity known as the Adamantine, and a stunning new family revelation plants the seeds for the next chaotic chapter of Logan’s life.

Lately, Wolverine has taken the Wendigo under his wing, trying to teach new host Leonard how to keep control of the beast within. Now, if an old enemy is pushing Wendigo to the “brink,” that could undo all the help Logan has given him so far.

Equally exciting is the glimpse readers get of Daniel Warren Johnson’s story, which shows Logan mourning over the arrow-ridden body of what appears to be a child. Johnson is one of the best writer/artists working in comics today, so seeing him get to let loose on a Wolverine story sounds incredibly exciting, even if it is only ten pages long. Having the story set in Japan should play to Johnson’s strengths as a storyteller, so hopefully readers are in for some prime samurai-styled action for his back-up in Wolverine #400.

Wolverine #400 – Available April 16, 2025 From Marvel Comics

Hitting 400 issues is a milestone for any comic book series, so it’s nice to see Marvel marking the occasion for Wolverine, one of the publisher’s most all-time popular characters, with an all-star creative line-up. Wolverine has come a long way since his debut all the way back in 1974, turning from a minor character appearing in The Incredible Hulk to one of Marvel’s most popular and beloved heroes of all time. Wolverinecan now join the hallowed halls of other storied characters throughout comic book history with this milestone anniversary issue.
