The infamous Marvel Zombies brand rises from the grave once more, and this time, it’s going to put the Fantastic Four through the ringer. A lot of Marvel projects are coming out this year, with Fantastic Four: First Steps nearly here and the Marvel Zombies show down the line. Now, Marvel Comics is combining the two into one terrifying product.

Per an exclusive announcement from Fangoria, Marvel Comics is bringing its iconic zombie series back in Marvel Zombies: Red Band. As the name implies, this is going to be a series meant strictly for adults, unlike past entries. The series comes from Ethan S. Parker and Jan Bazaldua and stars Marvel’s First Family, but not in a way fans expected.

Marvel Zombies: Red Band will focus on the Fantastic Four, fresh from their infamous space flight. Only this time, the team return with powers and a desire to consume humans, making them the most dangerous people in the Marvel Universe.

Marvel Zombies: Red Band Turns Marvel’s First Family into Pure Nightmare Fuel

Marvel Zombies came to life in 2005 in an unexpected crossover with the Ultimate Universe. After the Reed Richards of Earth-2149 tricked the Reed of Earth-1610 into visiting his Earth, only for Mister Fantastic to discover a world that’s been ravaged by a zombie virus. This world was later elaborated on in its own miniseries (written by The Walking Dead’s Robert Kirkman, no less). Earth-2149 had been contaminated by a disease brought to the universe by a Sentry variant, a sickness that quickly spread among heroes and villains, leading to a world populated by nothing other than super-powered zombies.

With a new Fantastic Four film debuting next month and a Marvel Zombies show set to debut later this year, it makes sense that Marvel would put out a series that capitalizes on both. Plus, the whole concept of Marvel Zombies practically began with Mister Fantastic, so it makes sense to bring them back together again for a twisted, new tale. Not to mention, this is the first Marvel Zombies book to come out under Marvel’s Red Band branding, allowing the publisher to create possibly the scariest and goriest version of this nightmare-inducing zombie tale.

What Horrors Await the Marvel Universe with a Deadly Fantastic Four?

One can only imagine how messed up Marvel Zombies could be with no limits. Add in the Fantastic Four and all the things they can do with their powers, and there’s a recipe for a truly shocking tale. Just imagine a zombified Thing clobbering innocent people to get their brains or Human Torch roasting his dinner alive. With the Red Band branding, readers may want to proceed with caution. Because when the Fantastic Four come to spearhead a new era for Marvel Zombies, it’s not going to be pretty.

The Fantastic Four is a superhero franchise centered on Marvel Comics’ first family of superheroes. Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, the team made its comic book debut in 1961 and quickly became a cornerstone of Marvel’s success. The franchise follows four astronauts—Reed Richards, Susan Storm, Johnny Storm, and Ben Grimm—who gain superpowers after being exposed to cosmic radiation. Over the years, Fantastic Four has been adapted into several live-action films, animated series, and video games. The films have seen multiple reboots, with varying levels of success, and are now set to be integrated into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), with a new film slated for release in 2025.
