Season 1 of Marvel Rivals has seen the arrival of the Fantastic Four, but future Seasons will undoubtedly feature even more characters. A recent comment from developers has stated that at least one new character will be added to the game every 1.5 months, giving the game more heroes and villains quickly. In fact, there may already be clues that hint at which characters you might see in planned updates.

Many different skins for some characters can debunk theories of which iconic figures from Marvel Comics may be on the roster next. For example, the Anti-Venom skin for Venom in Marvel Rivals likely means we won’t see Anti-Venom as a separate character in the game. This is the same for some other existing characters, such as The Maker for Mr. Fantastic or VEN#M skin for Peni Parker.

Why Season 2 Is Possible To Predict After Season 1

Different Character Dialogue Teases New Settings

The Season of Eternal Night Falls, or Season 1, has had a major focus on delivering the first wave of added characters into Marvel Rivals. From Mr. Fantastic and The Invisible Woman, Season 1 will see the inclusion of The Human Torch and The Thing before the Season ends. However, the nature of how added characters have a theme makes you wonder – what will be the theme behind Season 2’s characters?

Every New Map In Marvel Rivals Season 1 Explained

Marvel Rivals is getting three new maps during its first-ever season: Sanctum Sanctorum, Midtown, and Central Park. Here’s what to expect.

The story of Season 1 also heavily implies that characters and themes will revolve around the game’s narrative first. For Season 1, it was the story of Dracula plunging New York into the titular Eternal Night. The rise of vampires in the city may not tie directly into the Fantastic Four themselves, but the setting of New York was attached to perhaps the city’s most prominent superhero team.

The events of Season 1 being tied around gothic struggles surrounding vampires also heavily influence the Season 1 Battle Pass. Most of the skins for different characters in the Battle Pass follow a theme tied to Season 1’s aesthetics.

With seasonal content reflected in settings and story events, you then have to consider which events have been teased already. Certain character dialogue and comic pages from Seasons 0 & 1 give hints as to where the story might be going next. Through the mention of other major Marvel locations and characters, there are a few places the story has a higher chance of focusing on in Season 2.

Season 2 May Revolve Around Knull

The God Of The Void Awaits

One of the most striking theories about Season 2 is that it will focus more on Knull, the imprisoned god of the symbiotes on Klyntar. Venom already has several lines of dialogue with characters like Hela and Black Panther about the imposing threat Knull poses to the fused timestreams. It would be no surprise if the chained lord of the void finally achieved their freedom to wreak havoc.

An often overlooked story element in Marvel Rivals is how Bast, the god that gave Black Panther his powers, has been corrupted by Knull in the game’s story. This could easily be another way to set up Knull in a future Season.

The Klyntar map itself holds many clues to Knull’s eventual arrival in Marvel Rivals. Corrupted symbiotes dot the map, with one team’s objective to bring Knull’s essence to the god for his freedom. Another version of Klyntar or the dead Celestial Knull in the Doom’s Rise trailer would be a perfect Season 2 map that shows players how dangerous this foe is to the entire multiverse.

From a seasonal content perspective, having Knull would be almost too easy. Symbiote versions of characters would make for easy skins in Marvel Rivals, giving many characters Venomized looks that players can grind for in the Season 2 Battle Pass. At the same time, having Knull as the central conflict in Season 2 could lead to the inclusion of more symbiote characters besides Venom, such as Carnage or the Life Foundation symbiotes.

Leaked Characters Hint At Krakoa

Characters in Marvel Rivals already mention the mutant island nation of Krakoa in dialogue, so Season 2 may easily feature a story centered around children of the atom. Mutants could be the focus of Season 2 with Krakoa as a new map. Skins related to famous X-Men comics or characters would be an interesting way to create a new Battle Pass that players will engage with.

Which X-Men character do you most want to see in Marvel Rivals?

Currently, Marvel Rivals has Wolverine, Storm, Magneto, Psylocke, Magik, and Namor as playable mutant characters, though more are rumored to be coming soon. If I could only pick one X-Men character I’d want added to the game, I would have to pick Nightcrawler. His teleportation could be a really cool gameplay feature, especially if he has his two swords. That said, Gambit would be awesome as well.

This article includes some spoilers regarding datamined leaks, so continue at your own risk.

Leaks have also proven that more mutant characters will arrive in Marvel Rivals soon. Multiple famous figures like Scott Summers, aka Cyclops, will be a playable character in the game at some point. Emma Frost, Jean Grey, and Professor Charles Xavier are among the most well-known characters seen in leaks, but other datamined sources claim that more obscure mutant figures will also make it to the roster.

Another important leaked character is Ultron, the destructive robot and one of the Avenger’s strongest enemies. A character like this could also have a season dedicated to them as a primary antagonist.

As more story content gets revealed, future Seasons will continue to be hinted at over time. It is likely the developer’s intention to leave clues about Season 2 in Marvel Rivals, so either of these predictions could still be possible for content included in Seasons 3, 4, or 5 much later in the game’s life cycle.
