Marvel Snap has been on a bit of a hot streak, thanks to the generally successful roll out of a couple of seasons in a row. Of course, the game still has no shortage of issues, some of which have only grown more severe during this time. However, High Voltage is one of the game’s newest victories, and it will hopefully be a sign of things to come in Marvel Snap.

High Voltage is the most recent game mode in Marvel Snap, in the form of an event which concluded on October 24 after one week of play. In many ways, High Voltage is the perfect answer to what many fans have demanded from these events for quite some time. Now, one can only hope its limited time access will be swiftly remedied for the sake of players.

High Voltage is the new game mode in Marvel Snap that limits each match to only three rounds and allows you to win Agony for free!

High Voltage Revolutionized How Marvel Snap is Played

Marvel Snap has begun to test the waters with events coming in the form of new game modes. High Voltage was not the first in this trend, as it appears to have taken many cues from another Marvel Snap event released earlier this year. Deadpool’s Diner was a controversial event among fans, thanks to a major imbalance in certain areas. However, these downsides seem to have informed High Voltage just as much as any of its successes.

Similarly to Deadpool’s Diner, High Voltage is a limited-time game mode meant to take the fast pace of Marvel Snap to the next level. While Deadpool’s Diner simply raised the stakes of individual matches, High Voltage altered even the most basic rules of Marvel Snap. High Voltage is played in only three turns, with energy increasing by random amounts each turn. This incentivized players to craft unique strategies not available in other modes, and resulted in some of the most creative combos yet seen in Marvel Snap.

High Voltage is a Dream Come True for Casual Marvel Snap Fans

This already creates a fun foundation for High Voltage as a limited-time game mode, but there is one aspect that should certainly persist long after its conclusion. Despite High Voltage fundamentally changing how the game is played, the event had ironically low stakes. High Voltage matches take less time than standard play, do not cost players any resources to engage, and even provide players with lucrative rewards. WIth all of this in mind, High Voltage can almost be considered Marvel Snap‘s very own casual mode.

This makes it all the more unfortunate that High Voltage was restricted to such a limited timeframe. In fact, many fans have already asked that the event be extended, or that it returns in the future. Considering Deadpool’s Diner is now a recurring event, the latter demand doesn’t seem all that unreasonable. Regardless, the main point stands, that High Voltage represents the best of what fans have wanted out of Marvel Snap.

The Potential Future of High Voltage in Marvel Snap

High Voltage was plenty of fun as a limited-time event, but Marvel Snap‘s developers shouldn’t leave the game mode’s potential at that. High Voltage returning for another limited window would certainly be a nice step, but a more regular schedule would be that much sweeter. Likewise, although High Voltage reoccurring monthly sounds perfect, the most promising possibility would be for it to become a permanent game mode.

Unfortunately, this seems to be the most unlikely possibility as well. High Voltage offering players a free card was one of its biggest benefits, but now may be its biggest roadblock. Developers have frequently stated the game’s economy as a major concern, meaning Marvel Snap‘s monetization may prevent something like High Voltage from being more consistent. Still, Marvel Snap has added permanent game modes in the past, and future events should take notes if they want to receive an equally warm reception.
