The X-Men have saved the Marvel Universe more than a few times, yet the humans of Earth still feel disdain, uneasiness, and even hatred toward them purely because they’re different. The X-Men exist solely within Marvel Comics, but multiverses are all the rage right now, so if indie comics crossed over, which heroes would join Professor Xavier’s school for mutants?

The X-Men are powerful heroes––mutants with mutations that essentially give them superpowers. Plenty of indie comic boo heroes would seamlessly fit within their ranks, from Savage Dragon and his monstrous appearance, to Spawn and his connections to Hell (he’d get along with Magik and Madelyne Pryor), to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

10 Spawn Could Rule Marvel’s Limbo

First Appearance

Spawn #1

Creators

Todd McFarlane

Powers/Abilities

Shapeshifting, immortality, teleportation, regeneration, telekinesis

Professor Xavier may have difficulty justifying Spawn’s residency at the X-Mansion with the high probability that he’d give the students––and other X-Men heroes––nightmares. However, Spawn could certainly serve as a part-time X-Man, assisting the team whenever they delve into Hell or Limbo, as they have in events like Inferno and Dark Web.

The X-Men are experts at handling mutant problems, and they certainly know their way around conflict with the Avengers, but Spawn brings a supernatural element that is mostly missing from the team. Teaming up with Magik, the Hellions, and the New Mutants, Spawn could be a powerful X-Men ally and even eclipse Marvel heroes like Doctor Strange.

10 Wolverine Stories That Are Perfect for Video Games

From X-Men: Schism to Old Man Logan, Wolverine has several stories perfectly suited to the video game medium.

The original X-Men were supposed to be beacons of hope for the mutant community. However, so many members of the X-Men are hardcore vigilantes who use lethal force, from Cable to Wolverine to Deadpool and beyond. Rai wouldn’t mesh well with those original X-Men, but he’d certainly fit well with the X-Men of the ’90s.

In particular, Rai would be a great partner for Wolverine. Rai and Wolverine have strong ties to Japan and value honor and battle. The image of Wolverine and Rai charging into battle against the Hand, Wolverine’s adamantium claws out, Rai’s katana swords drawn, feels so right.

8 Savage Dragon Could Fight Wolverine Like The Hulk

First Appearance

Savage Dragon #1

Creators

Erik Larsen

Powers/Abilities

Super strength, accelerated healing, invulnerability

As a police officer for Chicago P.D., Savage Dragon respects the law. The X-Men would never need to question his heroics or motivations. Teaming up with Savage Dragon would be like having the Incredible Hulk join the X-Men, minus all the headaches that naturally come with the Hulk.

The Savage Dragon is strong and durable like the Hulk but doesn’t “Hulk out” like Bruce Banner. He usually keeps a calm, cool, and collected head. Pairing him with Colossus would make a formidable duo, and the X-Men would never be short on muscle again. Wolverine would have another strong man to perform the Fastball Special with.

7 Morning Glories Would Excel At Xavier’s School For The Gifted

10 Weirdest Indie Superheroes, Ranked

Heroes like The Tick and the Flaming Carrot are indie comic superstars who developed cult followings due to their zany surrealism and hilarity.

The main characters from Image Comics’ Morning Glories comic don’t possess superpowers, but they’re not strangers to weird, science-fictional, supernatural events. During their time at the Morning Glory Academy, Casey, Zoe, Hunter, Jun, Jade, and Ike battle spiritual forces, cult leaders, and even time travel.

The Morning Glories comic jumps around a lot, but so do X-Men comics. The X-Men have fought evil across many timelines. The Morning Glories, being students, would fit well in Xavier’s school for the gifted, but their experience with traveling through time would help them on their field trips with the X-Men.

6 Invincible Could Be The X-Men’s Most Powerful Ally

First Appearance

Invincible #1

Creators

Robert Kirkman, Cory Walker & Ryan Ottley

Powers/Abilities

Super strength, flight, invulnerability

Invincible has already teamed up with Marvel’s Spider-Man, so he could easily make the short leap to X-Men comics. Although Invincible is not a mutant like most of the X-Men, that hasn’t stopped Xavier’s students before. The X-Men have allies scattered across the Marvel Universe, from the Starjammers to the Shi’ar Empire.

The X-Men could use Invincible’s help. It’d be like having Superman on their team. The X-Men have muscle on the team thanks to members like Colossus, but they could always use more. Additionally, being a teenager, Mark Grayson would fit nicely in Xavier’s mansion.

First Appearance

Captain Canuck #1

Creators

Richard Comely & Ron Leishman

Powers/Abilities

Super strength, super speed, advanced suit and gadgets

Captain Canuck is the Canadian version of Captain America, though nowhere near as popular or well-known. However, his nationality puts him in good company alongside Wolverine. In Marvel Comics, Wolverine has teamed up with Alpha Flight, a team of superheroes who also originated in Canada.

Modern versions of Captain Canuck are more militaristic and more brutal in their heroics. These versions of Captain Canuck would provide the perfect partner for Wolverine, especially if Logan donned his stealth costume for some secret operations involving the Weapon X program. Wolverine and Captain Canuck would cause some havoc up north.

4 Nemesis Is More Brutal Than Deadpool

First Appearance

Nemesis #1

Creators

Mark Millar & Steve McNiven

Powers/Abilities

Hand-to-hand combat expert, weapons expert, enhanced endurance

Deadpool’s Best Variants, Ranked

The Marvel multiverse is filled with fun variants like Kidpool and Lady Deadpool, with a few even jumping to the big screen in Deadpool and Wolverine.

Deadpool is, without a doubt, too extreme for the X-Men. However, the Merc With a Mouth has joined a surprising number of X-Men teams. Deadpool has fought for radical, violent teams like Weapon X and X-Force and has even joined future versions of the X-Men. Nemesis has a lot in common with Deadpool. Both enjoy the sight of blood a little too much.

While he’s not a hero, Nemesis is the protagonist of his own unforgettable comic series. With his expertise in weapons, Nemesis would make a fine addition to the more radical X-Men groups. Sure, he’d never mesh with Xavier’s dream of mutant prosperity, but he’d look good serving Apocalypse or fighting side-by-side with Deadpool and Cable. In the roughest Marvel timelines, like the one from Old Man Logan, the X-Men would appreciate Nemesis as an ally.

3 Witchblade Is As Versatile As All The X-Men

First Appearance

Cyblade/Shi: The Battle for Independents #1

Creators

Marc Silvestri, David Wohl, Brian Haberlin & Michael Turner

Powers/Abilities

Shapeshifting, body armor, sword generation, wings

An X-Men/Witchblade crossover makes sense because it’s already happened. Veteran X-Men Wolverine married Sara Pezzini in the Witchblade/Wolverine one-shot comic. Sara is the main host of the Witchblade artifact, which grants her incredible abilities. Witchblade specializes in combating supernatural foes, something the X-Men also face often.

Wolverine is always struggling with romance, from Jean Grey to Mariko and many, many more. His marriage to Witchblade could become canon, and the two would make a pretty good team. If Witchblade ever officially joined the Marvel Universe, she’d fit in with the X-Men more than teams like the Fantastic Four or Avengers.

2 Hellboy Would Add Supernatural Expertise To The X-Men

First Appearance

Dime Press #4

Creators

Mike Mignola

Powers/Abilities

Demonic heritage, Right Hand of Doom, supernatural expert, fire immunity

10 Best MignolaVerse Comics (That Aren’t Hellboy)

The Hellboy universe is home to one of the greatest heroes in indie comics. However, there are plenty of great stories without Big Red.

The X-Men and the Hell of the Marvel Universe have been linked since the original “Inferno” story in the 1980s and the birth of Madelyne Pryor and the Goblin Queen. Colossus’s sister Magik has led the New Mutants and served as the Queen of Limbo. She could certainly use a big red hand of doom to help her. Enter Hellboy.

Hellboy is an extremely powerful half-demon from Dark Horse Comics. Hellboy and the X-Men may not mesh well when promoting mutant prosperity with humans, and he may not be able to do much against future Sentinels, but the X-Men sure could have used his help during “Inferno” and the recent Dark Web event.

1 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Are Mutants Just Like The X-Men

First Appearance

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1

Creators

Kevin Eastman & Peter Laird

Powers/Abilities

Katana, sai, bo, nunchaku

The X-Men and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have much in common; they’re both heroic groups of mutants, feared and sometimes hunted by humans, battling villains from Earth and the larger universe. The X-Men may be powerful, but they have few truly skilled fighters.

The X-Men can blow holes in walls and combat cosmic entities. Still, when defending the streets of New York and rescuing a single mutant in danger, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles would be the ultimate special ops group within the X-Men. Additionally, the TMNT have far better bedside manners than Wolverine.

“}]] The X-Men have welcomed several members over the years, though indie heroes like Spawn, Invincible, and the TMNT could flourish with Marvel’s mutants.  Read More
