Deadpool and his creator, Rob Liefeld, are forming a perfect team for the anti-hero as he joins forces with Hulk, Wolverine, Spider-Gwen and more. Deadpool has become one of Marvel’s fan-favorite characters since the ’90s, when he was co-created by Liefeld and writer Fabian Nicieza. However, while he’s more than capable of holding a story on his own, his team-ups with other Marvel heroes allow him to really shine. Now, a new series is putting him side-by-side with his best team yet.

Deadpool Team-Up is a new series by Rob Liefeld that sees Deadpool in need of assistance for his latest adventure. With a growing number of enemy forces, the likes of which Deadpool can’t take on alone, fans will see him form a team of fan-favorite heroes. The cover for the first issue alone features a star-studded cast as Hulk, Wolverine and Ghost Spider (aka Spider-Gwen) join the squad alongside other heroes like Crystar and Major X.

What’s exciting about this new team-up series is the action that lies in store for the anti-hero. A preview of Deadpool Team-Up #1 provided by Marvel features Deadpool and Ral Dorn the Dragon Lord as they “encounter a massive red dragon.” The artwork alone shows that this could be Deadpool’s greatest fight yet as he dodges out of the way of a barrage of flames while trying to battle a dragon that’s ten times his size, if not more.

However, the fun doesn’t stop there. In the same issue, an unknown assailant attacks Deadpool and Ral Dorn, leading to the arrival of iconic X-Men hero Wolverine to join the fight. While it’s currently unknown what the characters are saying to each other, it’s still enough to get fans hyped for how the story brings the beloved duo together. Plus, with a whole team of heroes still yet to be assembled, the first issue of Deadpool Team-Up is sure to be a must-read for fans of the Marvel Universe.

Perhaps the most interesting addition to the preview pages for Deadpool Team-Up #1 is Deadpool’s new powerful katana that he takes with him to battle the dragon. Unlike his standard weapons, this katana appears to be completely made out of gold. This leads fans to wonder what it can do that makes it the better alternative. Given the fact that he’s brandishing it to fight a dragon, it’s entirely possible that the material makes it impossible to melt with fire or strong enough to cut through the dragon’s rough skin. Only time will tell, but it’s a nice addition to Deadpool’s expanding arsenal that adds some flair to his iconic weaponry.

Fans can pick up a copy of Deadpool Team-Up#1 when it hits comic book stands on August 28. Releasing only a month after Marvel Studios’ Deadpool & Wolverine, this new comic will be a perfect way for fans to follow up on the film by reading new adventures of the Merc With a Mouth as he teams up with more heroes. Deadpool and his creator, Rob Liefeld, are capping off the summer in the best way as heroes like Wolverine, Hulk and Spider-Gwen team up with him to face forces unknown.
