Wolverine has encountered numerous villains in the Marvel Universe. He has his own set of villains, including Sabretooth and Lady Deathstrike. However, he’s also faced many other adversaries, such as Bullseye and even Kang the Conqueror in a bizarre crossover with Star Trek. Comic readers have been following Logan for 50 years now, and still, they love to see who he’ll be paired up against next. Will it be a tried and true opponent like the Silver Samurai? Or will he finally have his showdown with Stilt-Man? One thing readers do know is that he’ll always be battling someone in Marvel Comics.

But what would his battles look like if he could face villains from DC Comics? Sure, fans saw Wolverine fight Lobo in the ’90s, but many other strong DC villains could challenge Wolverine. Some could test his animalistic nature, while others would be a great match against his militaristic side. Other showdowns could be interesting because of how different the villain is from Wolverine. No matter what, they would all be fun to see.

10 Wolverine Could Take On DC Comics’ Strongest Clown

Batman

For the most part, Wolverine is a very serious character. Their banter often annoys him when he teams up with Deadpool and/or Spider-Man. However, most of Wolverine’s villains are also serious. Characters like Gorgon and Omega Red aren’t famous for cracking one-liners or playing pranks. Sometimes, we’ll get Sabretooth doing something humorous for sadistic reasons, but even then, there is serious intent. This is why Wolverine needs a strong villain like the Joker from DC Comics. Joker certainly has the cruelty readers expect from a Wolverine nemesis, but he also has the comedy that Deadpool often brings. Joker would simultaneously enrage and annoy Wolverine.

However, while Wolverine could easily kill the Joker in a physical confrontation, Joker stories are never about the hand-to-hand combat aspect. Instead, they’re about what the Joker does leading up to the final confrontation. In stories such as Death of the Family and Joker War, the clown aims to destroy Batman more through psychological warfare rather than relying on a fistfight. That fistfight might be short, but whatever the Joker would plan for Wolverine leading up to it would be very interesting…and probably terrifying.

Speaking of terrifying, Scarecrow might not be one of DC Comics’ strongest villains in physical terms, but he could likewise make Wolverine’s life a living hell with his fear toxins. In fact, he could probably do more harm to Wolverine’s psyche than the Joker. Logan is a man deeply haunted by his past. Even before he got his full memory back, he was already feeling the weight of all the people he had killed, regardless of the reason.

Because of this, Scarecrow could break Wolverine more than Mysterio did in the events of Old Man Logan. Jonathan Crane’s fear toxins amplifies whatever haunts the victims. With so much trauma in Wolverine’s life, it would take just a little of Scarecrow’s fear toxins to ruin him. While Wolverine could easily defeat many of Gotham’s villains in a one-on-one fight, Scarecrow could destroy Logan’s mind and never have to fight him at all.

Wonder Woman

Barbara Minerva is one of the strongest DC villains for many reasons. She might have enough superhuman strength and speed to take on Wonder Woman, but even more than that, she has tenacity. When she needs to be, she is laser-focused. However, even if she has the brawn and brains to hold her own against DC’s heroes, she would present a much different challenge for Wolverine.

As adversaries, Wolverine and Cheetah could bring out the savage sides in each other. They’re both named after ferocious animals for a reason. For Cheetah, it might be in a more literal sense, but it helps to highlight her incredibly animalistic nature. Wolverine and Cheetah couldface each other claw for claw. Or Wolverine might fall in love with her. It could go either way.

Wolverine might not be as rich or intelligent as Tony Stark, but thankfully, the two are usually on the same side. That wouldn’t be the case if Wolverine fought with Lex Luthor, one of DC Comics’ strongest non-super villains. Lex has no superhuman enhancements, but like Stark, he has intelligence and wealth. For a villain, that’s more than enough. Lex’s primary nemesis is Superman, someone with incredible physical powers. Yet, Lex still manages to be a threat to the Man of Steel.

How would Luthor fare against a man with stronger-than-steel bones? He could use his genius intellect and bottomless bank account to become a threat to Wolverine. Luthor is smart enough to ensure he wouldn’t come within striking distance of those claws. Even if he did, he already has the technology to protect himself. After all, he did build a suit that could challenge Superman.

6 DC’s Tactical Assassin Could Take On Marvel’s Berserking Animal

Wolverine vs. Deathstroke

Created by

Marv Wolfman and George Pérez

Debuted

December 1980

Main Nemesis

Teen Titans

A showdown between Wolverine and Deathstroke, one of the strongest tactical minds in DC Comics, would treat fans to a masterclass of strategy vs. savagery. Slade Wilson is a calculating genius who often moves several moves ahead of an opponent who doesn’t even know they’re being hunted. Deathstroke is also a weapons and martial arts master, which means he could take on Wolverine in various ways.

Like Wolverine, Slade has enhanced abilities and a healing factor. Though he doesn’t heal as fast as Wolverine, it would still be enough to make it hard for Wolverine to kill Deathstroke. Wolverine’s own hunting skills, using his enhanced senses, may not help him, as Deathstroke would find ways to cover his scent and movements. Wolverine is unlikely to outsmart Slade, so he would have to rely on his animal instinct to defeat him, but the match could go either way.

5 Batman’s Strongest Villain Would Ruin Wolverine’s Life

Wolverine vs. Bane

Created by

Dennis O’Neil, Chuck Dixon, and Graham Nolan

Debuted

January 1993

Main Nemesis

Batman

It’s a good thing Wolverine has a mostly unbreakable spine. Bane is the ultimate example of a character with brains and brawn. When he broke Batman, it wasn’t just his back but everything Batman fought for. While Deathstroke can plan out even the most minute detail, Bane is a big-picture villain. Why take out Batman when he could also simultaneously take out Gotham City and the entire Bat-Family?

If Bane set his focus on Wolverine, everyone Wolverine ever cared for would be in danger. And even if it got to a physical match, the venom pumping through Bane’s body would make him near impossible for Wolverine to take down. Bane might be unable to break Wolverine’s skeleton, but he would still give him quite a beating…body and soul.

Batman

While most of Wolverine’s fights with DC Comics’ strongest villains would be more physical or psychological, a battle with Ra’s al Ghulwould be more philosophical. Though he is one of Batman’s enemies, Ra’s al Ghul’s motives are not as villainous as Joker, Bane, Scarecrow, and many others. He wants to fix the world in a weirdly altruistic way, but his methods are quite extreme. His skills as a swordsman only add to his intrigue.

If anyone could get into Wolverine’s head (without telepathy…more on that later), it would be Ra’s. Readers would want to see the two master swordsmen fight it out blade to blade. However, the conversation between the two immortal men would be far more fascinating. We’ve seen the lengths Wolverine is willing to go to protect mutantkind (especially during the Krakoan Era). Could he resist the allure of Ra’s al Ghul the way Batman does? Maybe not.

3 A Strong Telepath Could Defeat Wolverine

Wolverine vs. Gorilla Grodd

Debuted

May 1959

Main Nemesis

Flash

Wolverine has had his mind tampered with more times than he cares to remember. In fact, his memory was so shattered he probably couldn’t recall all the times someone else was in control of his body. That’s where one of DC Comics’ strongest telepaths, Gorilla Grodd, could truly devastate Wolverine. Unlike Scarecrow, who could influence Logan’s fears, the warrior gorilla could take complete control of Logan’s mind.

Even if Wolverine can break Gorilla Grodd’s grasp on his psyche, Grodd is also a highly intelligent giant gorilla capable of fighting. A physical fight between Wolverine and Grodd could be as brutal as the fight between Logan and Bane. Combine Bane’s strength and Cheetah’s animalistic nature, and then toss in telepathy? Wolverine might make it out alive, but not as the man he was at the beginning of the fight.

10 Most Powerful DC Heroes General Zod Could Defeat

DC heroes like Martian Manhunter and Wonder Woman may be powerful in their own right, but they don’t stand a chance against General Zod.

As one of DC’s most powerful villains, General Zod could challenge Wolverine and even possibly kill him. Zod’s powers are identical to Superman’s Kryptonian abilities. He has super strength and speed, can fly, and can shoot lasers out of his eyes. He’s also a militaristic genius. Other strategic minds would need to avoid a physical confrontation with Wolverine. However, Zod could outmaneuver Wolverine strategically and physically.

If it came down to a physical fight, Wolverine wouldn’t be strong enough or fast enough to keep up with Zod. But would his adamantium skeleton and accelerated healing factor be enough to keep him in the fight? Could his claws even penetrate Zod’s skin? Fans have speculated for years if Wolverine’s claws were stronger than Superman’s skin. That would be an even more important question in this match. But also, could Zod bend or break adamantium? Zod might be able to kill Wolverinefaster than Wolverine could heal from his injuries.

1 Wolverine’s Rage Would Hinder Him Against a Red Lantern

Wolverine vs. Atrocitus

Geoff Johns and Ethan Van Sciver

Debuted

January 2008

Main Nemesis

Green Lantern

Yes, General Zod is one of the strongest DC Comics villains who could most likely kill Wolverine. However, for Wolverine, dying isn’t the worst thing that could happen. One aspect of Wolverine’s character that he struggles to control is his “berserker rage.” On occasion, Logan is pushed so far that he loses control of his mind and turns into a violent killing machine. He often doesn’t even remember what he’s done when this happens.

Atrocitus, more than any other Red Lantern, feeds off of rage. The deeper into a berserker rage Wolverine goes, the stronger Atrocitus would become. But the most harrowing aspect is that Wolverine’s rage makes him perfect for a Red Lantern ring. These rings keep their owners in a state of rage at all times and, if removed, usually kill them. Wolverine would be stuck in his mindless berserker rage state. Even if he gained control again, he would still have to live enraged all the time. If anything, Logan might become a more powerful Red Lantern than Atrocitus, but it would cost him his humanity.

Wolverine

Wolverine first appeared in The Incredible Hulk #180, where he battled the Jade Giant to a standstill, before joining Marvel’s X-Men in 1975. Since then, the short-tempered berserker with unbreakable claws has proven himself as one of Marvel’s most popular characters. The mutant hero was also the backbone of the X-Men film franchise, which ran from 2000 to 2020, and critics consider his solo film, Logan, one of the best superhero movies ever made.

Known as an unstoppable tank who can cut through anything, Wolverine isn’t technically one of Marvel’s most powerful heroes but he’s one of the deadliest characters on their roster. Even villains like Magneto and the Juggernaut have learned to be wary of Wolverine’s claws.
