Marvel shared a first look at Life of Wolverine #1, including the solicitation and a cover, with AIPT. The book will be written by Jim Zub and drawn by Ramon F. Bachs, with a cover by Rom Lim, shared below. Marvel’s solicitation for the issue reads as follows:

Marvel did not reveal why Wolverine’s past has become so important to the survival of Earth’s mutants, but this title will be firmly set in the upcoming From the Ashes initiative that will set the X-Men’s post-Krakoa status quo.

Wolverine’s Popularity Was Thanks in Large Part to the Mystery Surrounding His Past

Wolverine’s Memory Implants Kept Him From Knowing the Truth

Wolverine began as a one-off villain for the Hulk but grew to become one of the most compelling characters in comics. After writer Chris Claremont and artist Dave Cockrum incorporated Wolverine into the “New X-Men” lineup, the character’s popularity soared. Comic fans of the late 1970s/early 1980s could not get enough of Wolverine. Part of Wolverine’s popularity was thanks to his mysterious background. Fans knew Wolverine was older than he looked, but just how old remained a mystery. Furthermore, Wolverine has been subjected to memory implants and wipes over the years, which heightens the mystery further.

Beginning with Barry Windsor-Smith’s Weapon X storyline, more was revealed about Wolverine’s life prior to X-Men. 2002’s landmark Wolverine: Origins did what had previously been unthinkable, and even blasphemous, to some: telling the character’s origin. Fans feared learning about Wolverine’s background would remove the element of mystery that made him so popular. The opposite happened, and Origins shocked fans. In 2005’s House of M, Scarlet Witch restored Wolverine’s memories to him, effectively ending this part of his character. Those who worried that Wolverine’s luster would vanish with these revelations had those fears assuaged, as Wolverine is as popular as ever.
