Marvel Comics has released new Sentry character designs for its upcoming four-issue comic series. The publisher also revealed new variant covers for Sentry #1.

Per Marvel, two of its promising new creators, Jason Loo (X-Men Unlimited) and Luigi Zagaria (Midnight Suns), will write and draw the Sentry series, respectively. Sentry #1’s main cover is drawn by Ben Harvey and acclaimed international artist Peach Momoko provided the Nightmare Variant Cover. Salvador Larroca, Ema Lupacchino, and Skottie Young created the other variant covers.

In Loo and Zagaria’s incarnation, Bob Reynolds’ Sentry is dead, and other new characters from different walks of life gain his powers and fragments of his memories. The power dispersion leads to a violent conflict instigated by the characters’ different motivations and the desire to lay sole claim to the Sentry legacy in Reynolds’ absence. Fan-favorite characters Misty Knight and Jessica will team up to seek answers, opening an investigation that promises to change everything readers think they know about Sentry.

Loo discussed some of the new characters fans will meet in Sentry and described the series’ story as a mystery tale, “This entire series is a mystery where we follow Jessica Jones and Misty Knight as they figure out these catastrophic accidents caused by random strangers with the Sentry’s powers,” he said. “You’re going to witness a bunch of origin stories, like Mallory Gibbs, a writer for Front Line news who lives with cerebral palsy. Farhad Anand is a mutant keeping a low profile as a DoorDish bicycle courier, and Ryan Topper is a teenage fanboy who gets to live his dream of becoming a superhero. And there are a few more further into the story. But the real question is how are they all connected to Robert Reynolds?” Loo added.

Loo expressed his excitement for the upcoming Sentry series in an earlier statement, “This new chapter of the Sentry has an intriguing concept: on top of all the responsibilities and struggles a single person has to deal with in their everyday life, can one also handle the power of a million exploding suns?” he said. “It’s a fun opportunity for me to create new characters that readers can see themselves in and bestow them these earth-shaking powers,” Loo enthused.

Sentry #1 will be available in comic book shops on December 6, 2023.
