[#item_full_content] [[{“value”:”There was a ton of big news out of NYCC, including a new Marvel live action series on Disney+, but I wanted to take a break from all the TV and movie news to shine a light on the reason for the season con — the comics.
I’m a comics reader, and even though I wasn’t kicking around Javits at NYCC this year, I made sure to follow the big new series announcements to make some mental notes for what I’ll be adding to my pull list.
So I thought it’d be fun to round up what stood out to me. To be clear, this is in no way a comprehensive list of all comics announcements out of NYCC 2026. Because there were a lot of cool projects announced (honorable mention to G. Willow Wilson’s new Captain Marvel solo series!).
But these are just the Top 5 that piqued my interest.
James Bond (IDW)
Details are still pretty light on this one, but the pedigree caught my eye. Iconic comic creator Grant Morrison has signed on to create a new comic for IDW that brings James Bond to the comic page. Morrison promises new cars, gadgets and villains. There’s no artist announced yet, but the publisher has revealed the 2027 series will kick off with a six-part arc code named “Sunbreaker.”
Absolute Justice (DC)
DC Comics has created one of the buzziest new universes with the Absolute run of comics, and now they’re finally bringing those reimagined heroes together for a Justice League ‘book called Absolute Justice. Martian Manhunter will assemble the disparate heroes, including Absolute Batman, Absolute Superman, Absolute Wonder Woman and more, to take on a grave new threat.
The five-issue event is slated for an April 2027 release, written by Absolute Superman mastermind Jason Aaron with art by Juan Ferreyra.
Magneto: End of Days (Marvel)
With the X-Men back on the board with a new film reboot in the works, Marvel is taking a deep dive into one of the most interesting characters in that universe: Magneto. Heavyhitters Brian Michael Bendis and Andrea Sorrentin unite for an eight-issue “prestige” series called Magneto: End of Days, diving into the 60-year history of Magneto from various angles.
He’s a character with a ton of history and nuance, and seeing this creative team take a crack at it could be something special. It’s slated for a February 2027 release.
Spider-Man: Noir (Marvel)
Fresh off a hit (canceled) live action TV series, Spider-Man: Noir is getting a new solo comic series (along with a few other new Spidey comics on the way). It’ll be written by the excellent Alex Segura with art by Farid Karami. The series will follow the noir version of Peter Parker as he investigates a mysterious underworld artifact.
And the coolest part? This new series will introduce its own spin on Venom with a Venom Noir coming to the series when it launches in February 2027.
Happy Death Day (IDW)
Blumhouse and IDW announced a fresh partnership at NYCC that spans a few of the studio’s film franchises (The Purge and M3GAN are also included), but it’s Happy Death Day that has me most excited about the collab. The films are just a brilliant, hilarious time loop slasher story engine.
Bringing that into a comic format should be crazy fun. The excellent comic writer Tim Seeley (Revival, Hack/Slash) is handling the adaptation. A third film also remains stuck in development — so hopefully some good comic hype can help get it moving, too.
