[#item_full_content] [[{“value”:”Marvel’s Wolverine, the big PlayStation 5 exclusive of the fall gaming season, is a love story.
There’s a man with metal blades that he can extend from his wrists. There’s a woman with telekinetic powers.
He’s got black mutton chops. She’s got a head of fire-red hair.
There’s an obvious spark between them.
Will they? Won’t they?
This is the reason to play Marvel’s Wolverine, a third-person action game of extraordinary technology and ordinary level design. It’s a game of familiar brawling that also chronicles the refreshing flickers of attraction between ferocious James Logan Howlett aka Wolverine and the powerful hurls-concrete-slabs-with-her-mind Jean Grey.
You play this game as Logan. Jean’s all cutscenes and mid-combat dialogue. Oh, what a combo they make.
Marvel’s Wolverine arrives five years after the game was announced, three years after a data theft put early footage of the game into the public eye, two years after it changed creative directors.
To the extent there was tumult, the studio has forged a solid if seldom surprising game. It’s a linear adventure of go here, beat up bad guys, cutscene, repeat. To spice it up a little: find some chests with currency for unlocking outfits, find some magical doors.
Throughout this adventure, the question is not whether Wolverine can defeat his enemies. Of course he can. He’s the super-hero equivalent of a blender, starring in a game with fun yet shockingly easy combat.
