A location frequently seen in Marvel Comics is now a part of the real world thanks to a tribute to the man who ushered in the Fantastic Four. Hype is reaching a fever pitch for Marvel’s First Family as their debut in the MCU draws closer and now one of the team’s creators is being honored in a touching way.
On Instagram, Marvel Comics Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski posted a series of photos of a ceremony held in New York City honoring comic book icon Jack Kirby. The ceremony was held at the corner of Essex Street and Delancey Street, right near the apartment where Kirby was born and spent much of his youth.
As part of the ceremony, Marvel and the City of New York put up a set of commemorative signs in tribute to the iconic comic creator. The first is Jack Kirby Way, honoring the King of Comics himself. The second title is Yancy Street, the fictional street the Fantastic Four’s Thing grew up on.

Jack Kirby Honored with Touching Tribute to His Past
Jack Kirby was a visionary creator who helped shape comics in the 20th century. Like most creators, he pulled from his own life and experiences, and when it came to the Fantastic Four, he channeled much of himself into Ben Grimm. Like Kirby, the Thing also grew up in the Lower East Side (albeit on Yancy Street instead of Delancey).
This is an amazing and touching tribute to one of the most important figures in Marvel history. Without Jack Kirby, there wouldn’t be a Fantastic Four, as it was his contributions that truly shaped what fans love about the iconic Marvel team. With so much hype surrounding the Fantastic Four, it’s nice to see Kirby receiving the accolades he deserves.
Marvel is Shining a Light on Its Most Influential Creator
With so many people across the world excited for Fantastic Four: First Steps, it’s high time the spotlight shined on Jack Kirby. Everyone knows about Stan Lee and the role he played. But this move is a great way of bringing Kirby to the world stage and showing the sizable impact he had on the Fantastic Four.
It’s nice to know that the place that meant so much to Jack Kirby now stands as a tribute to all of the wonderful things he brought into the world. Any Fantastic Four fans who find themselves on the Lower East Side are going to want to stop by Delancey Street to pay tribute to the King.
