Marvel legend Robert Downey Jr. is a big supporter of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s latest series, Ironheart, showing his support for the series in a new interview with its lead star, Dominique Thorne. However, aside from the heartwarming exchanges between the MCU stars, the sitdown features some notable vintage attire on Downey Jr. that’s a must-have for Marvel fans.
Speaking during an exclusive Marvel interview, Downey Jr. caught up with Thorne regarding Ironheart, exploring the show’s origins and the connection between Thorne’s titular character and Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark/Iron Man. During the video conversation, Downey Jr. is seen wearing a West Coast Avengers shirt, a nod to the titular expanded Avengers team that first appeared in Marvel Comics during the 1980s and who most recently appeared in West Coast Avengers #4, which launched last November. This isn’t the first time Downey Jr. has attracted attention with his wardrobe while talking about Ironheart, sporting a Doctor Doom-inspired hat as he addressed the show’s cast.

With a fresh perspective and a very different origin story, Marvel’s next tech-powered hero is ready to rise.
Downey Jr. showered Ironheart during the interview, calling it a “beautiful, full-circle” series that culminates in several parallels between Stark and Riri Williams. Looking at the first three episodes, the Oscar-winning actor encouraged Thorne to “keep kicking ass out there,” and stated that “you’ve done us proud so far.” Downey Jr. has long been passionate about Ironheart, expressing his desire to see Riri in the MCU since 2019, a year after the character was introduced in the comics.
Set shortly after the events of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Ironheart sees Riri, an MIT student and genius inventor, return to her hometown of Chicago, trying to process everything that happened in Wakanda. While there, Riri crosses paths with ally and gang leader Parker Robbins/The Hood (Anthony Ramos), later discovering dark secrets that pit technology against magic, leading to some questionable decision-making.
Ironheart, the final project in the MCU’s Phase Five, has mostly been a hit with critics, boasting an 82% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, though it’s been less welcomed by audiences. The series has also been a streaming smash since debuting on Disney+ in June, topping the charts for weeks domestically and globally. Ironheart was created by Chinaka Hodge, with Black Panther franchise director Ryan Coogler serving as an executive producer.
