Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Weapon X-Men #2! There’s an all-new X-Men team in Marvel Comics, and the members are arguably the most hardcore living weapons in X-Men canon, including the likes of Cable, Chamber, Thunderbird, Deadpool, and – of course – Wolverine. They are the Weapon X-Men, and they are about to go up against the worst possible threat, though one that is appropriately tailored to their level of brutality: an army of Wolverines.
In an unlettered preview shared by AIPT Comics for Weapon X-Men #2 by Joe Casey and Chris Cross, readers are shown this ‘army of Wolverines’ as well as the man responsible for their creation: Baron Strucker. This preview also includes the issue’s official synopsis, giving fans insight into what Strucker is planning, why he targeted Wolverine, and even the name of his ‘Wolverine army’.
BARON STRUCKER STRIKES!
An enemy from Wolverine’s distant past has claimed his first victims – and one of them is Wolverine himself! And the rest of Weapon X-Men may not make it in time to save them from Strucker’s insidious plans of world conquest! Introducing, for the first time anywhere – Wolverines of Mass Destruction!
The Wolverines of Mass Destruction are robotic replicas of Wolverine, and each one is arguably even deadlier than Logan himself, as they’re all made of pure adamantium. In the previous issue, Wolverine is tracking someone who is stealing caches of adamantium. He puts that mission on hold when he joins Weapon X-Men, but little did he know, the person he was tracking was also tracking him. By the end of the last issue, Wolverine was in the hands of the person he was looking for, Strucker. Now, the other members of Weapon X-Men are about to face the fallout.
Deadpool is Working with Strucker, Making Him a Weapon X-Men Enemy, Not Ally
One of the biggest surprises from the first issue of Weapon X-Men was that Deadpool was secretly a villain working for Baron Strucker. He weakened Wolverine’s healing factor, separated him from the rest of the Weapon X-Men (after pretending to be a member of their team), and then put an adamantium bullet in his brain. Deadpool hand-delivered Wolverine to Strucker, which – as this preview confirms – results in the creation of the Wolverines of Mass Destruction.
While Deadpool has certainly been a villain in the past, his most recent stories have exclusively painted him as a hero, including in his very own ongoing book. That’s what made this twist so shocking, and what will make the rest of the Weapon X-Men series so exciting. Not only will the Weapon X-Men have to take on an army of Wolverines – the most hardcore enemy for the most hardcore X-Men team – they also have Deadpool to worry about.

Wolverine is out of commission and the enemy has an army of Wolverines (plus Deadpool), which only means one thing: the Weapon X-Men need their own Wolverine army. Luckily for them, there’s another ‘Weapon X-Men’ team in Marvel’s multiverse, one that is made up of Wolverine variants. Among them is Weapon X from Age of Apocalypse, Old Man Logan, and even Zombie Wolverine. They successfully took down Onslaught in Weapon X-Men Vol. 1, and now, it seems their services are required yet again – from another ‘Weapon X-Men’ team, no less.

Only time will tell if the Weapon X-Men will have what it takes to defeat this Wolverine army, but either way, they’re in for the fight of their lives – and fans should be very excited to see it.
