The latest take on a classic Marvel character might just be the deadliest of all time.

After the eponymous mutant villain of Sabretooth: The Dead Don’t Talk #2 tears his way through the various superpowered gangs attempting to carve out a piece of New York City for themselves in the late 1900s, those very same gangs come together to push back against this newly introduced threat to their territories. Together, the Shockers, Sons of New Amsterdam, Street Sorcerers Supreme, Night Flyers, and Frankengang are sure they can put a stop to Sabretooth’s reign of terror, though not without some help. As luck would have it, one of their own has already called upon the fiercest warrior K’un-Lun has to offer, and Dragonfire is more than happy to show everyone just how much damage she can do.

Marvel’s first Dragonfire had one of the most short-lived careers in the history of Marvel Comics, with his one and only appearance taking place in 1979’s Hulk Comic UK #15 in the story “Night Raven” by Steve Parkhouse and John Bolton. Born as Chen Hei-Kwun, the original Dragonfire was the leader of a gang of drug smugglers operating out of New York City in the 1930s. After numerous failed attempts to defeat and ultimately kill the costumed crime-fighter known as the Night Raven, Dragonfire was murdered by his own boss, Yi-Yang, for his apparent ineptitude and the threat it posed to their operation as a whole.

It wasn’t until 2011’s Point One #1 that a new Dragonfire was introduced in Fred Van Lente and Salvador Larroca’s story “Yin & Yang.” The twin brother of Wanxia, or Coldfire, Zaoxing was raised in seclusion to protect others from his uncontrollable pyrokinetic abilities, Zaoxing always knew that there was something waiting for him on the outside. As it turned out, both he and his sister were raised in the same circumstances, each being told that the other had died until they eventually broke free and reunited, finally old enough and capable enough to control their powers in full. From that point on, the pair did whatever they could to help the rest of the world, even fighting alongside the Avengers against the threat of the same organization that had raised them.

Sabretooth: The Dead Don’t Talk takes readers back to the late 1900s for a trip through the titular villain’s not-so-ancient past. At its outset, Victor Creed was working diligently under the watch of Nathaniel Essex, aka Mister Sinister, who had installed himself in a position of power within the walls of the infamous Ravencroft Institute. After meeting an inmate named Fisk, Sabretooth decided to help the former gang lord reclaim everything he had lost, leading to a violent crusade of terror that has very nearly painted the streets of New York City red with the blood of anyone who gets in their way.
