While most of Marvel‘s best-known superheroes call the United States of America home, the Great White North boasts some of the most formidable figures in the Multiverse. From immortal mutants to demi-gods, Canada has produced multiple heroes who could easily rival and triumph against the likes of The Avengers. These Canadian characters may not receive the recognition they deserve, but they don’t disappoint.
While some famous Canadian heroes like Wolverine rank among Marvel’s most well-known characters, many of the nation’s more region specific heroes haven’t gotten the full love they deserve. This ranking will break down the strongest among Canada’s top heroes to determine which Maple Leaf flier comes out the strongest. Whether leading elite teams or standing as lone wanderers, these Marvel heroes represent Canada’s finest contributions to the superhero world.

Puck (Eugene Judd)
Home Province: Saskatchewan
Before becoming a hero, Eugene was a traveling mercenary and well-known across the world for being a hulking and mountainous man. However, on his journeys, Puck uncovered the Black Blade of Baghdad, which further increased his monumentous strength at the cost of his height. After a brief villainous stint, Puck was
drafted onto Alpha Flight
as one of the Canadian government’s state-sponsored heroes. Despite his comedically short size, there is actually a reason for this physical change that works toward Puck’s advantage.
Puck’s body acts akin to compressed rubber. When he releases his body’s compact tension, Puck delivers devastating blows that most enemies don’t expect from an opponent of his stature. Likewise, Puck can use this trait to give himself superspeed and break-neck reflexes. Augmenting his superpowers, Puck is a professional martial artist and a highly-trained acrobat, once again taking many enemies off guard. This Canadian character isn’t all bronze either; Puck is well over a century old and has spent his long lifetime absorbing as much knowledge and skills as possible.

Northstar & Aurora (Jean-Paul & Jeanne-Marie Beaubier)
Home Province: Quebec
Northstar and Aurora are mutant twins who were devastatingly separated in infancy after their parents died. When Jean-Paul grew up, he developed the ability to fly and superhuman speed and used his powers to achieve Olympic glory. Jeanne-Marie has a near identical ability to her brother, but was raised in an upbringing that tortured her mind into a permanent dissociative state. When the two reunited, both mutants joined the Guardian’s Alpha Flight. However, the twins’ full powers only activate when they are together.

As the X-Men Expand, a Marvel Exec Warns Against Muddying the Waters: “A Slippery Slope”
According to the head of Marvel’s “X-Office,” non-mutant X-Men members are a part of the franchise, but that doesn’t mean they should proliferate.
Originally, when the twins made physical contact, they would emit powerful light beams equivalent to a lighthouse’s glare. However, over time, they have each unlocked the ability to use this power independently. That said, their independent powers still magnify exponentially when the twins are closer. As such, these near-lightspeed travelers are a combination threat that outpaces most competition. If the twins were to push their speed to their maximum potential, they could risk shattering time-space around them and at the cost of their lives.

Guardian (James Hudson)
Home Province: Ontario
The Guardian is, more or less, Canada’s
closest equivalent to Captain America
. James Hudson first approached his superheroic career after joining the Canadian government’s Department H, an agency designed to sanction, support, and monitor superhuman activity. Soon becoming the department’s leader, James founded the Canadian superhero team Alpha Flight alongside other members of this list. As the Guardian, James originally gained his powers from a self-designed battle-suit, but has since been rebuilt as a cyborg with many equivalent super abilities.
In addition to the standard array of physical enhancements, Guardian’s cyborg body allows him to fly at the speed of sound and manipulate local gravity to his advantage. Guardian is incredibly durable and reinforced with a force field; he once took on Wolverine’s claws and walked away unscathed. As a cyborg, James can generate various electromagnetic and plasma-based projections, but is best suited for digital reconnaissance. The Guardian is a die-hard patriot for his country, proudly wearing the maple leaf while beating down apocalyptic threats.

Snowbird (Narya)
Home Territory: Northwest Territories
Narya is a descendant of the Inuit gods of the North who protected humanity from the Great Beasts. After both mystical races were banished, the Inua Goddess of the Northern Lights gave birth to Narya, a demi-god who would remain in Canada as the territory’s protector. The mystical hero Shaman raised Narya as his own alongside Alpha Flight as her godly powers developed over time. Snowbird is primarily an animal shape-shifter who can take the form of numerous species native to Northern Canada. While this mainly includes animals, she can also transform into
Canada’s more ferocious natives
, like the Wendigo.
Having been raised by a mystical practitioner and being a mystical being herself, Snowbird is well-versed in a variety of magic.
However, she is not simply limited to shape-shifting. Having been raised by a mystical practitioner and being a mystical being herself, Snowbird is well-versed in a variety of magic. Narya mainly uses her magical abilities to heal herself and others. Relatively recently, Narya has gained the power to see into the recent past as well. This, alongside her mystical senses, has made her an expert tracker for Alpha Flight. For the majority of her life, Snowbird was magically bound to Canada’s borders, but that flaw has seemingly been overcome.
6
Sasquatch (Walter Langkowski)
Home Province: British Columbia
While Walter no longer possesses his Sasquatch powers, when he was at the peak of his strength, Walt’s power nearly rivaled the Hulk. After moving to the States for college, Walter met and briefly befriended fellow gamma scientist Bruce Banner. Sometime after the Hulk’s birth, Langkowski sought to induce a similar effect. Walter succeeded and
opened two Green Doors
; one linked to the Below-Place as with most Hulks, but the other linked to the Realm of the Beasts. There, the spirit of Tanaraq emerged and possessed Langkowski. Now, instead of growing green when angry, Walt would transform into the Sasquatch.
In his Sasquatch form, Walt possesses many of the same
physical powers of the Hulk
. He could pick up objects weighing tons and throw them kilometers away. At times he has even overpowered the Hulk by fully allowing Tanaraq to control his body. As a gamma-mutate, Walter is immortal and can recover from even the most fatal injuries. After swapping bodies with Doc Samson, Walter has since lost his powers. But, hypothetically, if both gamma-mutates died together, they could reverse this process. Even so, his genius intelligence and immortal life make Walter Langkowski one of Canada’s greatest heroic assets.
5
Deadpool (Wade Wilson)
Home Province: Unclear
A product from the Canadian covert agency, Department K, Deadpool is as linked to
Canada’s Weapon X Program
as Wolverine. After being implanted with Wolverine’s healing factor, Wade Wilson has become an immortal nuisance who chooses to palyfully rely on his powers. Deadpool seems to have significant pain tolerance, allowing him to embrace his healing factor less hesitantly than Wolverine might. Due to this, Deadpool rarely holds himself back, throwing all his enemies off guard. Of course, Deadpool’s greatest power is his fourth wall-breaking awareness.

Rob Liefeld, the creator of Deadpool, says they are splitting ways with Marvel amid recent drama.
After being transported to the Foundations of Eternity, the origin of all universes,
Deadpool accidentally unlocked
the cosmic awareness that he was in a comic book. While the anti-hero usually plays this power off for laughs, it has given him access to knowledge he wouldn’t otherwise know. Deadpool has used his comic book awareness to dupe his opponents by manipulating the comic panels to his advantage. Deadpool is a well-rounded fighter with an unpredictable and unkillable wild side.
4
Shaman (Michael Twoyoungmen)
Home Province: Alberta
Shaman comes from a long line of mystics and sorcerers who tapped into the Earth’s natural magic. Since childhood, his tribe raised Michael to become a well-rounded mystical prodigy, although the hero has always preferred to use his people’s magic. Like a well-known American sorcerer, Shaman is one of Canada’s best surgeons and often applies his medical expertise with his magic. Michael prefers to remain a healer and often leaves direct combat up to his allies in Alpha Flight.
That said, Shaman isn’t a force to overlook. Like
Marvel’s other sorcerers
, shamans, and wizards, Michael is capable of near-limitless feats and magical spells which are often as creative as a particular writer is feeling. Shaman can teleport, time travel, speak with the dead, and manipulate weather, among many other powers. While he may not be as physically powerful as many of this list’s other additions, Shaman’s lifelong magical expertise will always grant him an advantage over the traditional superhero.
3
Wolverine (James Howlett)
Home Province: Alberta
The gruffest addition to this list of Canadian characters, James “Logan” Howlett was born to a wealthy plantation owner in Alberta, Canada. After unlocking his bone-claw ability, his feral nature crept in overtime. Eventually, Logan transformed into a bestial creature that roamed the Canadian wilderness. Of course, it wasn’t until
Weapon X
that Wolverine unlocked his full potential. This semi-sentient metal has unlocked numerous different abilities for Logan, including rage-induced hot claws. His claws are near-indestructible and capable of slicing through any material.
Wolverine is a near-immortal
who can walk back from the brink of death as easily as a cut scabs over. Without his healing power, his adamantium skeleton would have killed him instantly. The 300-pound skeleton has also forced Wolverine to build an impressive level of physical strength to perform his fast-paced fighting style. While the mutant can feel pain, he has never let such a paltry thing stand between him and his goal.
2
Sentry (Robert Reynolds)
Home Province: Unclear
Before becoming one of Marvel’s most unstoppable superheroic powers, Robert Reynolds was a struggling drug addict who broke into an abandoned Canadian research facility that aimed to recreate the Super Soldier Serum. Inside, Robert found
the Golden Sentry Serum
. After consuming the mysterious chemical, Robert gained cosmic-level solar powers. However, the brightest lights cast the darkest shadows and a cruel endless Void of evil latched onto Sentry’s soul. When he can contain his demonic other-half, Sentry easily ranks as Marvel’s most powerful human hero.
Among a vast array of superpowers, Sentry can fly, teleport, and move at superhuman speeds. He possesses a near-immortal healing factor which he has previously used to re-atomize himself after experiencing total molecular decay. Sentry also acts like a universal battery and can absorb, convert, and release any form of energy. When pushed to his absolute limit, Robert Reynolds has ascended to an omnipotent god-like status that threatens to destroy the universe as if it were nothing. Unfortunately, it’s his conflict with the Void that limits his powers most often.
1
Squirrel Girl (Doreen Green)
Home Province: Unclear
While Doreen Green may not be as invincible or all-powerful as most entries on this list, Squirrel Girl does have the best track record for major villain defeats. Squirrel Girl is a Canadian-American who was born with the proportionate abilities of a squirrel. Alongside her many squirrel side-kicks, Doreen Green has been eating nuts and kicking butts for years. While her powers may seem comedic, an army of squirrels certainly has its advantages. Even
Doctor Doom could not withstand
the might of a dozen squirrels.

“Marvel Rivals” just revived a controversial romance between Wolverine & Squirrel Girl, which Marvel initially tried really hard to make fans forget.
However, Doreen’s greatest power is her ability to make friends. When faced with Marvel’s ultimate villains like Galactus or an army of Frost Giants, Squirrel Girl has come on top through the power of words alone. Doreen is an expert communicator and loves making friends. Her ability to see everyone empathetically has helped her put down threats far quicker than most heroes. Squirrel Girl also has the power to break the fourth wall, granting her a certain level of cosmic knowledge. She may be the silliest character on this list, but it’s hard to argue against a character who single-handedly defeats
Marvel’s greatest threats
. Based purely on the opponents she’s defeated, it’s fair to say Squirrel Girl is by far Marvel’s most powerful Canadian hero.
