There’s arguably no bigger existential threat to the Marvel Universe than Galactus, and a new novel is now adapting the Fantastic Four story that first introduced him. This isn’t the first adaption of this story, nor will it likely be the last, but there’s a good reason for that, as it remains one of the most influential Marvel tales ever told.

Marvel has just announceda new prose novel, Fantastic Four: The Coming of Galactus, written by James Lovegrave, adapting the classic Fanatastic Four comic arc of the same name, the Galactus trilogy.

The original story appeared in The Fantastic Four (vol 1) #48-50 – written by Stan Lee, with art by Jack Kirby – and arguably, there is no better comic to adapt than this seminal text of the Marvel Universe that could have only come from Lee, Kirby, and the creative minds of Marvel during the 1960s.

This newest tome is written by James Lovegrove, perhaps best known for The New Adventures of Sherlock Holmes novels, alongside other franchise and original sci-fi and fantasy work.

Notably, this is far from the first adaptation of The Coming of Galactus. In fact, this might be the Marvel story adapted into the most mediums. Video games gave fans an adaption with Lego Marvel Superheros, while the story was also adapted loosely in film for Fantastic Four 2: Rise of the Silver Surfer. The casting of Silver Surfer and Galactus for the upcoming the Fantastic Four: First Steps, also suggests that the story will also be making its way to the MCU soon, another likely incentive behind the upcoming novelization.

The Coming of Galactus Is A Classic Story That Stands The Test Of Time – Now Experience It In A New Medium

The Fantastic Four (vol 1) #48-50 – Written By Stan Lee; Art By Jack Kirby, Ink By Joe Sinnott; Color By Stan Goldberg; Lettering By Artie Simek & Sam Rosen

Even beyond the upcoming film, there are few Marvel stories more deserving of widespread recognition than Galactus’ first appearance. The story combines the best of its creators. Jack Kirby got to indulge his fascination with the intersection of gods and powerful cosmic beings meeting humanity, and draw crazy designs, while Stan Lee tapped into the human emotion of the story and found a fictional muse in Silver Surfer, who’d go on to be one of his favorite characters. Galactus’ debut is a Fantastic Four story worth remembering, and this new novel is only another way in which fans can do exactly that.
