The following contains major spoilers for Dazzler #3, on sale now from Marvel Comics.

The Dazzler’s latest world tour has just introduced the latest offshoot of Krakoa — and it is awesome.

Left reeling from the latest attack on herself, her band, and her legions of fans, the titular mutant hero of Dazzler #3 is left with little choice but to take to the stars in the hopes of escaping her troubles. Thankfully, she has the perfect way of doing just that thanks to a little-known vestige of Krakoa. Specifically, a living ship capable of traversing any expanse with ease, jump through any Krakoan gates still standing, and recover from almost any damage in an instant.

The sentient mutant island of Krakoa made its comic book debut back in the opening story, “Deadly Genesis!” from 1975’s instantly iconic Giant-Size X-Men #1 by Len Wein and Dave Cockrum. While its earliest appearance portrayed Krakoa as a malevolent force of sorts, it was easily one of the greatest discoveries in the history of mutantkind. This made it a near-tragedy when Krakoa was eventually rocketed into space for having defended itself against apparent invading teams of X-Men, though that would hardly be the end of its story.

At some point, Krakoa returned to Earth after being studied by the Stranger, leaving it free to begin building a new legacy. Specifically, one of working with other mutants to establish itself as an independent island nation that mutants from every corner of the universe could call their home. This gave rise to the Krakoan Era, which quickly became one of the most beloved by fans. In the years that followed, the ancient history of Krakoa and its origins would be unveiled, opening the door for an entirely new society of mutants, the Arrakki, to make their own entrance into the pages of Marvel Comics.

Iron Man Just Called Out an MCU Icon

One of the most beloved heroes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe just got called out for a failure that was never entirely hers to begin with.

Alison Blaire, aka Dazzler, has long been a fan-favorite mutant, with her first appearance dating back to 1979’s Uncanny X-Men #130 by Chris Claremont and John Byrne. Capable of harnessing and converting sound into various forms of light energy, Alison decided to become a one-woman musical sensation, replete with her own built-in light shows. Unsurprisingly, her attempts to make a name for herself as a musician drew the attention of the likes of both the X-Men and Hellfire Club, who drew the young Dazzler into the kind of life she had never previously envisioned for herself. Despite spending much of her time fighting alongside Marvel’s other mutant heroes, Dazzler has still maintained success as the Marvel Universe’s premier mutant pop star.
