Marvel Is Setting Up Juggernaut’s Biggest Fight Yet, And It Could Change Him Forever

Usually, when comic book characters get superpowers, they don’t have to reckon with where those powers came from, but that’s not the case for Marvel’s Juggernaut. The Juggernaut has been in tons of fights, but his next battle will be against the main source of his power: the crimson god Cyttorak.

The Juggernaut’s greatest fight will be seen in the upcoming The Amazing Spider-Man #67 by Justina Ireland and Andrea Broccardo. Marvel revealed more details about this issue in its February solicitations.

As part of the 8 Deaths of Spider-Man storyline, Juggernaut, backed by the X-Men and Spider-Man, will do his best to save the world from Cyttorak. If Juggernaut wins this fight, it’s unclear what will happen to him or his powers. While Juggernaut hasn’t been empowered by Cyttorrak directly for a while now, he still gains his powers from artifacts of Cyttorak, such as the Crimson Bands of Cyttorak.

Without Cyttorak, Will Juggernaut Still Be the Crimson Giant?

Recently, Juggernaut has been trying to turn over a new leaf as a hero and has even joined the X-Men properly. It’s been a great time in Cain Marko’s life, but now he’s going to have to prove where his allegiances truly lie. As the crimson god Cyttorak decides to attack Earth himself, Juggernaut will have to go up against his former god to prove that he is truly a good guy now, but thankfully, he won’t have to take this fight on alone with both Spider-Man and his X-Men allies by his side.

Originally, Cain Marko was a human just like anyone else. While he was a trained military soldier, he wasn’t especially strong or powerful. He was just some guy with a gun. During one of his tours in the army, he came across the crimson gem of Cyttorak, and he gained the power that makes him one of the most dangerous men on the planet. By pledging his loyalty to Cyttorak, Cain became the Juggernaut, Cyttorak’s avatar of destruction on Earth. Every time Juggernaut caused destruction and chaos, Cyttorak grew more powerful.

It might seem that Juggernaut and Cyttorak have a great relationship; after all, Juggernaut gets to destroy everything with the powers Cyttorak grants him, and in turn, Cyttorak grows more powerful. Their relationship has involved many battles between them, however. Cain Marko and Cyttorak have clashed a few times, and this fight in The Amazing Spider-Man #67 will undoubtedly be their biggest battle yet, as it will be one of the only times Cain Marko has physically fought the god Cyttorak without it being a mental or spiritual battle.

Juggernaut and Cyttorak Haven’t Always Been Allies

The Two Marvel Icons Have Fought Several Times

Cain Marko has clashed with Cyttorak in several battles, one of the most notable being during Marvel’s Eighth Day event, including in the one-shot Juggernaut: The Eighth Day #1 by Joe Casey, Terry Shoemaker, Scott Hanna, Mark Bernardo, and Michael Heisler. It was revealed in this story that Cyttorak was part of a pantheon of eight gods, and they attempted to create a machine that would enslave the human race. Thankfully, Cain was able to break free of Cyttorak’s influence, banishing Cyttorak from his psyche and regaining control of his body.

Cain battles Cyttorak once again before joining the X-Men, which results in him losing the majority of his powers. Despite this loss, Cain has still found several ways to continue being the Juggernaut, usually by drawing on the power of Cyttorak’s artifacts around the world.

Juggernaut Will Prove Once and for All That He Can Be a Hero

Cain Marko Just Needs to Defeat a God to Do It

Cain is no stranger to fighting with Cyttorak, but this next battle will be their largest yet, as it will be Cyttorak himself directly attacking Earth in a physical confrontation. Cain has been doing his best to become a hero, trying to make amends for all the death and destruction he has caused. He’s managed to hone his abilities and has become incredibly strong, but Cyttorak is the literal god of rage and destruction. He will not be easily defeated, and it’s no surprise that Juggernaut will have the entire X-Men team backing him for this fight.

Redemption doesn’t come easy, and this battle is Cain’s ultimate chance to prove that he’s worthy of it. He spent decades as Cyttorak’s avatar and helped him try to take over the world more than once. Now that Cyttorak is on Earth and trying to destroy the planet himself, Juggernaut will have to use all the powers and friends he’s made to stand up against his former god. This battle will undoubtedly be the biggest fight of Cain Marko’s life, and currently, it’s unclear if there will still be a Juggernaut left standing after the fight is over.
