The following contains major spoilers for Blade: Red Band #2, on sale now from Marvel Comics.
Marvel’s Daywalker is discovering how much of a vampire his mechanized new partner really is.
After an explosive encounter with a murderous band of vampires, the titular antihero of Blade: Red Band #2 finds himself unexpectedly working alongside Mowloon City’s very own cybernetically enhanced monster hunter — Elena. Although Elena isn’t all that keen on working alongside anything remotely related to a vampire, she isn’t all that far removed from one herself, either. As it turns out, Elena’s mechanized upgrades come with the strange side effect of making her body break down raw meat better than a cooked meal, which is more than enough to make Blade raise an eyebrow in her general direction.

Blade: Red Band takes place shortly after the events of Marvel Comics’ recently concluded Blood Hunt crossover event. Blood Hunt saw the world engulfed in a shroud of darkness summoned by unwitting Dark Force-wielding heroes and villains all over the world. This was orchestrated by a global network of vampires who manipulated said heroes and villains into serving as a conduit for their endless night, allowing the creatures of the night to launch an all-out assault on the rest of the world.
Over the course of Blood Hunt, it was revealed that Blade had masterminded the entire plot. Rather than having legitimately turned towards evil himself, Blade was acting under the control of the Marvel Universe’s very first vampire, Varnae, who had possessed the Daywalker at some point after his defeat of the ancient, evil entity known as the Adana. Thankfully, the combined might of nearly every other hero and villain on Earth was able to buy enough time for the skies to be parted and the Blood Hunt to be brought to an end, though not without grave consequences.

The latest generation of mutant heroes are finally showing off what they are truly capable of, and one just knocked an X-Veteran down for the count.
While the Blood Hunt itself has been brought to an end, things still aren’t the same since it took place, and they likely won’t be for a very long time. Because of the overarching circumstances of the Blood Hunt, the world’s vampires have now overcome their lethal aversion to sunlight. This has opened the door for more and more vampires to try and make ordinary lives for themselves in spite of their undying nature, while others have taken it as an opportunity to terrorize the world’s human population with greater frequency. The Blood Hunt also saw Doctor Doom take up the mantle of Sorcerer Supreme, which is already proving to be a major point of contention for the likes of Spider-Man.
