One of the most dangerous mutants in the world is on her way towards becoming an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.
While the titular mutant shapeshifter of Mystique #2 is busy reconnecting with an old ally in the hopes of garnering some new information, Maria Hill is on the hunt for answers of her own regarding just what Mystique is up to. Fortunately, there is one person who can tell her exactly that with absolute certainty. That being said, it is hard to imagine that Destiny would ever give up anything she thought might put her beloved Raven Darkholme in harm’s way.

Irene Adler, better known as Destiny, made her comic book debut back in the pages of 1980’s X-Men #141 by Chris Claremont and John Byrne. This issue infamously kicked off the iconic Days of Future Past story arc which has been retold and reimagined time and time again. At the time, Destiny was a part of Mystique’s Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, who were set on assassinating United States Senator Robert Kelly, which in turn kicked off the events that led to the dark, alternate future of Days of Future Past.
Apart from being able to project an astral form and her preternaturally long life, Destiny has potent precognitive abilities that allow her to hone in on the most likely of futures simply by concentrating on what lies ahead. While she was indeed able to see something of a bright future for mutantkind should the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants succeed in their plan to kill Robert Kelly, it was only because that was the one out of several possible futures she was focusing on rather than letting various possibilities fade in and out of one another. Because of this, Destiny’s premonitions don’t always hold true, yet the rate at which they do have made artifacts such as her personal diaries immensely valuable.

In recent years, Destiny has become a more and more prominent character, with her resurrection being a major point of contention for the Quiet Council of Krakoa and the hunt for her diaries comprising a minor epic in its own right. Destiny was also confirmed to be the mother of none other than Kurt Wagner, better known as Nightcrawler, in the pages of X-Men Blue: Origins #1 by Si Spurrier, Wilton Santos, and Oren Junior. This revelation also came with the confirmation that Raven, who had long been considered Nightcrawler’s mother, was in fact his father instead.
