Marvel & Disney: What If…? Minnie Became Captain Marvel #1 is the 3rd installment of the Disney/Marvel amalgamations that takes iconic Disney characters and Marvel heroes and creates a Disney-fied story. This story is the first one to not focus on or include Donald Duck or feature cameos by Mickey or Goofy as they did in the Donald Duck/Wolverine issue. However, Uncle Scrooge does appear and is a major character and pivotal in Minnie’s transformation into Captain Marvel. Pete also appears as the villain Scorpion, who Carol dealt with in her 1977 solo series Ms. Marvel.
Speaking of comparisons between this one shot and the four-issue origin story from which this takes the jist of the story, hit all the right story points. Behling also makes sure to spotlight and keep those characteristics that make Minnie who she is while blending Carol Danver’s character along with her. Readers are also treated to the cameo of Figaro, Minnie’s feline companion.
The character designs for Minnie as Captain Marvel and Pete as the Scorpion pay homage and respect to the Marvel properties in such a way that they feel natural and organically combined. Having Uncle Scrooge and other Ducktale characters, like Magica, who factors into how Minnie gets her powers, work well building a larger world in which to tell these stories.
Artist Perissinotto also uses a variety of panel layouts that convey the action that is happening and keep the story flowing from page to page.
Is another fun installment in this series of Marvel/Disney mashups that provides a new look at classic stories while remaining respectful yo both characters and original story #LucaBarbieri @thatsbelievable #MarvelComics and @Disney #mickyMouse #Disney Read More
