The Red She-Hulk: Marvel Fan is One Step Ahead of The MCU, Bringing Betty Ross’ Gamma Form To Live-Action

In Marvel Comics, there are more iterations of the Hulk than fans can count, with the original Green Goliath giving way to multiple different colored brutes over the years who match and sometimes even exceed Bruce Banner’s already seemingly impossible strength, with the crimson-hued Red Hulk and Red She-Hulk fitting that bill perfectly. In a new cosplay featuring Betty Ross’ rageful Hulk persona, Red She-Hulk gets the MCU-ready live-action design she deserves, proving that Marvel needs to give the character an official debut, and soon.

An incredible Hulk-inspired look shared on social media via Instagram, this homemade gamma-imbued costume is designed and worn by Jamie (@jamiebearfancypants), a prolific creative talent who’s no stranger to bringing some of the comic book industry’s best heroes and villains to life in highly comic-accurate ways.

Previously dressing as the original She-Hulk in her emerald-skinned glory, Jamie has also slipped into the shoes of Marvel’s Black Cat, Mystique, Lady Loki, Domino, Punisher, and more, with Jamie also embodying DC Comics’ Poison Ivy, Zatanna, Hawkgirl, Catwoman, Green Lantern Jessica Cruz, and a more recent addition to Wonder Woman canon, Yara Flor.

Introduced in 2009’s Hulk #15, by Jeph Loeb and Ed McGuinness, Betty Ross became Red She-Hulk roughly a year after the debut of the first Red Hulk — revealed to be Betty’s father, General “Thunderbolt” Ross — a transformation that came about thanks to the evil machinations of the Intelligencia, a group of super smart super-villains hell-bent on creating a controllable Hulk of their own. Kept alive after a harrowing incident nearly killed her, Betty was bombarded with gamma rays and cosmic radiation, resulting in the birth of Red She-Hulk, giving the original Hulk a brand-new hero/anti-hero to contend with.

Shot by cosplay photographer extraordinaire Mark (@nycosplayer), Jamie immediately makes a case for why Marvel needs to bring Red She-Hulk into MCU continuity as soon as possible. Slipping her hand into a black fingerless glove as she subtly shows off her gamma-powered muscles, it’s Jamie’s piercing yellow eyes, red-streaked hair, crimson skin, and badass black outfit that sell this look perfectly. Bringing along Brandon Stith’s (@kingwebhead) Captain America Sam Wilson next, these follow-up images show off Red She-Hulk as she readies for battle, with Jamie’s determined glare and raised fists promising what will surely be a brawl for the ages.

What’s interesting about this last post is that in next year’s Captain America: Brave New World, General Ross’ Red Hulk will make his live-action MCU debut fighting against (and hopefully alongside) Sam Wilson’s Captain America, with Betty Ross herself making an appearance, stoking rumors that Red She-Hulk could potentially rear her crimson-colored head, or at the very least, be hinted at in an inevitable post-credits scene.

Regardless of what happens with Hulk on the big screen, Jamie (@jamiebearfancypants) is already ahead of the nerd curve with an incredibly impressive comic-accurate take on Betty Ross’ Red She-Hulk that deserves some recognition!
