Ultimate Wolverine is coming.

Jason Aaron and Mahmud Asrar announce Bug Wars.

Eddie Munson returns in new comic.

This is Comic Book Club News for October 18, 2024.

We were teased that writer Chris Condon and artist Alessandro Cappuccio were doing something with the upcoming Ultimate Universe: One Year In special. And now we know: Ultimate Wolverine.

Ultimate Wolverine, unlike his regular universe counterpart, is an “unwilling agent of the Maker, the secret creator of this corrupt universe. Mindwiped and used as an assassin, he’s still the best there is as at what he does… even if he’s not in control of who he does it to.”

And yeah, if that seems similar to a certain Bucky Barnes, that’s purposeful. In the new series, which debuts in January, we’ll see how this Wolverine works for Magik, Colossus and Omega Red, and gets deployed as “The Winter Soldier.”

Said Condon, “You might notice that there’s a Red Star on his costume and you might wonder why. If you look at that mask, there’s a muzzle on him and that’s because he’s wild”

You’ll get a sneak peek in Ultimate Universe: One Year In #1, before the debut of the series proper.

Ultimate Wolverine #1 arrives on January 15.

Jason Aaron and Mahmud Asrar are teaming up with a wild-sounding, six-issue dark fantasy miniseries titled Bug Wars. Coming from Image Comics, the series will debut with an extra-length issue in February of 2025.

Said Aaron via a press release, “When I was a kid, our backyard was a wondrous place, where I spent hours imagining epic adventures, action figures scattered all through the grass. In a lot of ways, I still feel like that kid, running around the yard, making up stories. Only the stories have gotten a bit darker over the years. For Slade Slaymaker, the backyard of his home in Alabama turns out to be a place of terror and brutality, where sects of tiny sword-wielding Mytes and their armies of flesh-eating beetles and acid-spraying ants have declared war on his family. Think Honey, I Shrunk the Kids meets Game of Thrones.”

As Aaron notes: yes, the main character is named Slade Slaymaker. The Alabama kid gets lost in a world of “marauding ant armies, spell-casting spider witches, and beetle-riding barbarians.” And it turns out that his father was killed by this world — now he must fight the Bug Wars to save his family.

Bug Wars #1 hits comic book shops on Wednesday, February 12, 2025.

You can’t keep a good member of the Hellfire Club down. And Eddie Munson is back in Dark Horse Comics Stranger Things and Dungeons & Dragons: The Rise of Hellfire. The four-issue prequel series is written by Jody Houser and Eric Campbell, with art by Diego Galindo.

Said Houser: “As soon as I saw Stranger Things season 4, I knew the story of Eddie Munson and the Hellfire Club would be a perfect sequel to our Stranger Things and Dungeons & Dragons miniseries. Both Eric and I are very familiar with how D&D forges friendships and storytellers, and it’s been wonderful exploring Hawkins through that lens.”

The first issue hits stores on February 19, 2025.
