After weeks of speculating, we finally have an answer about the identity of Teen (Joe Locke) on Agatha All Along. In the final moments of Episode 5, “Darkest Hour, Wake Thy Power,” a bonkers few minutes that left several characters seemingly dead, it turns out that — spoilers past this point — yep, Teen is in fact Wiccan, aka the Scarlet Witch’s son.

To be totally clear, this is never stated out loud, so you might be a little confused if you’re not steeped in MCU lore. Or aren’t the best at picking up on visual clues, I guess. So here’s how things go down in the brisk half-hour episode.

After entering the latest trial on the Witches’ Road, which turns out to be Agatha Harkness’s (Kathryn Hahn), the coven is forced to reckon with the fact that Agatha will betray them at a moment’s notice. This comes in the form of the ghost of her mother, Evanora Harkness (Kate Forbes), who tells the coven to leave Agatha behind. In a moment of stress, Alice Wu-Gulliver (Ali Ahn) suddenly exhibits magical powers and shoots orange at Agatha… Who proceeds to absorb all her power and life essence.

With Alice dead, Teen manages to free them from the trial by speaking the name of Agatha’s son, Nicholas Scratch. A kid’s voice says “Mama. Stop,” which opens the path back to the Witches’ Road… Leaving Alice’s body behind. Furious, Teen confronts Agatha, saying, “That’s what it means to be a witch? Killing people to serve your agenda? No. Not for me.”

Agatha’s expression turns into a wicked grin, and she whispers in his ear, “Are you sure? You’re so like your mother.” And as she walks away, blue energy begins to crackle around Teen’s hands. He mind-controls Jennifer Kale (Sasheer Zamata) and Lilia Calderu (Patti Lupone) to force Agatha into the mud on the side of the Witches’ Road… And then blasts them back into the mud, themselves.

The coven gone, the camera pans out from Teen’s face, revealing the distinctive crown of the Scarlet Witch on his head, as Billie Eilish’s “You Should See Me In A Crown” plays. So yep, Teen’s mom is Wanda Maximoff.

The history here is very complicated in the comics. And as of the end of this episode, we don’t know exactly how this will play out in the MCU. But in the books, Scarlet Witch has two kids, Billy and Tommy, who she creates with magic — just like in WandaVision. Also like in the show, they’re not real and she has to give them up… Though in the books they are taken by the villainous demon Mephisto, their souls destroyed in the process.

Somehow, they get reborn in new bodies, to new families. Billy is no longer Billy Maximoff, he’s now Billy Kaplan, a gay teen who finds he has magic powers. He takes on the name of Asgardian first and joins the Young Avengers. Later, after embracing his magical heritage, he changes his name to Wiccan.

So likely, this is Billy Kaplan, formerly Billy Maximoff, and soon-to-be Wiccan. The timeline squares up, too… WandaVision happened three years ago, Teen is 16 years old, and in a previous episode, he noted some weird stuff happened to him when he was 13 years old. Given the “Near Death In Westview” headline that plays with Joe Locke’s name in the end credits, the popular theory is that Billy Kaplan — the real one — died just as Billy Maximoff was let go by Wanda in the WandaVision finale… Letting Billy M’s soul take over Billy K’s body, without leading to a whole ethical conundrum.

We’ll just have to wait and see exactly how that pans out — as well as whether Elizabeth Olsen will show up as Scarlet Witch in the next episode, as well. As is, though, welcome to the MCU, Wiccan. We hope you survive the experience.
