Warning: Contains SPOILERS for The Ultimates #7!The Ultimates are trying to take back control of Marvel Comics’ newly-formed Ultimate Universe after the Maker reshaped the entire reality to his liking, and it seems the freshmen superheroes are already about to face their first official death thanks to the Hulk. This will be a historic moment in Marvel history, especially since the more hardcore nature of the Ultimate Universe implies that this death will be permanent. Now, one major question remains: who’s it going to be?

Marvel Comics’ solicitation for The Ultimates #7 by Deniz Camp and Juan Frigeri gives fans a first-look at the main cover (by artist Dike Ruan) and a variant cover (by artist Miguel Mercado), as well as the comic’s official synopsis. The Ultimates #7 is going to be a perfect jumping-on point for new readers, as the superhero team will be launching an all-new plan to save their world from the damage the Maker did to it

What’s the most striking about this synopsis is the reason why the Ultimates are regrouping. Apparently, in The Ultimates #6, the Ultimates face a grisly defeat after going up against the Hulk. Not only that, but one of their own members dies as a result. In The Ultimates #7, readers will see how the Ultimates are recovering, and how they will move forward.

WHO ARE THE ULTIMATES? A NEW STORY ARC BEGINS! Perfect jumping-on point for the uninitiated! The aftermath of the explosive last issue – including the loss of a major member! Join the Ultimates in their secret HQ as they regroup and launch their bold new plan to change the world!

Which Ultimates Member will be Killed by the Hulk?

Marvel’s Original Ultimate Universe May Confirm Which Ultimate will Die

The new Ultimate Universe is a dark reflection of the original Ultimate Universe of Earth-1610 and the main Marvel Comics continuity of Earth-616. Therefore, the events of those other universes could clue fans in on what to expect from Earth-6160 – including this upcoming death. The Avengers have suffered a number of losses throughout the team’s extensive Marvel Comics history, and almost none of them were permanent, so it’s nearly impossible to derive any clues from that continuity. However, the original Ultimate Universe killed off two of the founding members of the Ultimates in a much more permanent capacity, and those heroes just so happen to be on the new Ultimates in Earth-6160: Giant-Man and the Wasp.

Giant-Man and the Wasp were killed in Ultimatum, and were the only founding members of the Ultimates who were. They didn’t return until the entire universe was reset some time later, making their deaths permanent in regard to the original Ultimate Universe’s main canon. Could this mean that Giant-Man or the Wasp will share the same fate in Earth-6160 as their Earth-1610 counterparts? Right now it’s impossible to say. But if the new Ultimate Universe pulls from the original in this upcoming storyline, then it would be a safe bet that one of the two will meet their end.

Why The Ultimates Were Fighting Hulk in The First Place

The Hulk is a Major Villain in Marvel Comics’ New Ultimate Universe

While the Hulk may be a hero in both Earth-616 and Earth-1610 (with his status a bit more questionable in the latter), he’s a despicable villain in Earth-6160. The Hulk is a member of the Maker’s Council. He’s a cult leader who plots with other Maker’s Council members – including the Maker himself – to rule the world in the most heartless, self-serving ways imaginable. If the Ultimates want to take down the Maker’s Council, getting rid of the Hulk is paramount. Unfortunately, that’s easier said than done, and one of the Ultimates learns that lesson the hard way.

Ultimate Marvel

Created in 2000, the Ultimate Marvel imprint redesigned the entire Marvel Comics universe with a new set of origin stories and relationships. The reboot reinterpreted Marvel continuity from scratch in an attempt to simplify and update the company’s 60-year history for modern audiences. With famous comic book writers such as Brian Michael Bendis, Warren Ellis, and Mark Millar at the helm, the Ultimate universe (named Earth-1610 within the Marvel multiverse) lasted 15 years and provided plenty of inspiration for the MCU.
