Young Avengers returns next year.

Original Wolverine concept art is up for auction.

Absolute Superman sells out.

This is Comic Book Club News for November 8, 2024.

The Young Avengers are coming back to comics in 2025. In some form.

The news comes via Bleeding Cool, which just discovered an announcement Marvel EIC C.B. Cebulski made back in May at Osaka Comic Con. In a video of a Marvel presentation, Cebulski was answering fan questions and said, “The Young Avengers will be reuniting in 2025 from Marvel Comics… There have been two Young Avengers teams but now we are deciding which characters for natural story reasons are going to join the new Young Avengers…Kate-Hawkeye, Patriot, Hulkling, Wiccan…who’s going to join? 2025!”

It’s not surprising that the Young Avengers will reunite in some form, given the popularity of the characters and that the MCU has been slowly building up the roster for years. But what is curious is that Marvel announced a New Champions title that will debut in January. Will the Young Avengers appear to pass the baton to their new, young rivals? Or will Marvel have two teams of teen superheroes running around?

Stay tuned, true believers.

You could own John Romita’s original character sketch of Wolverine from 1974! Probably not, but it is available at auction now from Heritage Auctions, with the high bid currently standing at $105,000.

The design, which was used by artist Herb Trimpe to inspire the first appearance of Wolverine in The Incredible Hulk, features the full penciled look of the character, the note that he is five feet, five inches tall, and it’s signed by John Romita. It’s also, perhaps controversially, signed by Roy Thomas, the editor who has in recent years claimed he should get the main credit for creating the character because he suggested a short Canadian named Wolverine. Maybe.

Anyway, that’s available at auction until November 22, and if you own it you can just tear off the section with Thomas’s signature if you want. Probably shouldn’t, though, as that might decrease the value.

Making it a hat trick for DC Comics‘s Absolute Universe line, Absolute Superman #1 has sold out, and is heading back to press for a second printing.

In fact, this is the fifth title since DC launched the DC All In initiative that’s sold out at the distributor level, including Absolute Superman #1, Absolute Batman #1, Absolute Wonder Woman #1, Detective Comics #1090, and the DC All In Special #1 that kicked the whole thing off.

Absolute Superman #1 is written by Jason Aaron with art by Rafa Sandoval, and presents a brand new, revamped take on the Man of Steel that brings him (in some sense) back to his origin as a man of the people, fighting for the workers against big corporations.

In our review of the book, we thought it held up “pretty darn well” next to the high watermark of the previously two released Absolute comics, and that Sandoval “can seemingly draw anything and make it look stunning.” That’s probably what pushed it over the top sales-wise, I’m guessing? Yeah, that’s the ticket.

The second printing is available for preorder now and will hit stores on Wednesday, December 18. The main cover features new artwork by Sandoval and UIises Arreola, and a variant cover by Guillem March. There’s also a foil variant cover by Matteo Scalera, and another variant featuring concept art from Sandoval.

For Comic Book Club News, I’m Alex Zalben. [ripping sounds] Uhoh, decreased the value, sorry everyone.
