Martin Scorsese vs. Marvel isn’t a new hot topic in the industry. Many know that the iconic director Scorsese has already criticized the studio numerous times.

Martin Scorsese vs. Marvel

Earlier, he waded into the comic book movie debate in 2019. The Taxi Driver director caused a stir when he shared the belief that the Avengers films were “not cinema” but “theme park” rides.

Scorsese then again recently slammed Marvel movies and said audiences must ‘fight back’ against comic book culture by supporting directors like Oppenheimer‘s Christopher Nolan instead.

Now, in between the ongoing conversation between Martin Scorsese vs. Marvel, director Joe Russo triggered a sarcastic comment on Scorsese.

Joe Russo appears to shade Martin Scorsese

Recently, Martin Scorsese posted a video of him and his dog, Oscar, where he is saying: “Oscar, show me sadness,” and turns around the camera toward his dog.

Then, the four-time Marvel movie director Joe Russo posted a video of himself on his Instagram handle saying:

“Aw look, he has a schnauzer. I love schnauzers. And he named it Oscar. That’s really cute. Oscar.” [Then he holds his own schnauzer and says] Alright, come on, Box Office.”

Here, Russo is playfully making fun of the Silence director. More than that, Russo pointed the video at Scorsese, captioning it, “It appears we have the same muse @martinscorsese.”

Scorsese’s fans didn’t seem to enjoy this playful exchange, and several of them reacted to it. One mused: “For a second, I thought this was gonna heal the Marvel – Scorsese divide.”

Another wrote: “This just shows how insecure Russo brothers are, despite their box office success. Martin Scorsese is a legend, and the Russo brothers are [making two Joker faces].”

While another commented: “Man, you have no idea of what directing a movie means, and you are joking about the greatest living director…shut up and go to learn how to make movies.”

Scorsese has recently been seen spending some quality time with his beloved Oscar. The director often posts videos of Oscar on his social media handles.

“One muse [for] many, many years, ten pictures, is Robert De Niro, another muse, Leo DiCaprio is extraordinary, six films with him so far.”

“Over the years, I’ve worked with great actors, from Ellen Burstyn to Paul Newman, Michelle Pfeiffer, Margot Robbie, and…I need a change.”

“I need to find something that I could take further…to another level.”

Then the camera cut to their family dog, Oscar, who looked not so interested.
