Wolverine: Deep Cut #1 drops readers in the middle of a snowy forest in Japan where, in between the barren trees that dot this otherwise idyllic landscape, Wolverine and Sabretooth are locked in a bloody bout of brutal combat. As the two tear into one another, Wolverine can only think about how evenly matched he and his opponent are on almost every single level, and that if he doesn’t keep the fight going, the people he cares most about will be the next to get swept up in it.

Spider-Man 2099 Just Crossed a Lethal Line and It’s All Venom’s Fault

Marvel’s future Spider-Man crosses a line that he might never be able to come back from — and it is all because of Venom’s dark influence.

Victor Creed, better known as Sabretooth, has been one of the deadliest villains the Marvel Universe has to offer since his debut all the way back in 1977’s Iron Fist #14 by Chris Claremont and John Byrne. Like Wolverine, Sabretooth’s mutation granted him enhanced senses and a blisteringly fast healing factor, as well as the claws and fangs necessary to tear through his competition. In his early years, Victor had a tradition of tormenting his own brother on the young Saul’s birthday. After Saul was cut down by Logan, Victor sought out his brother’s killer, kicking off a whole new deadly obsession.

In recent months, Sabretooth unleashed an interdimensional army of variants of himself, many of whom had been reduced to headless cogs in his machinations. Sabretooth not only hunted Wolverine’s friends and family across continents, he gruesomely murdered Logan’s son, Akihiro, leaving behind only shreds of his victims behind. Fortunately, Wolverine was ultimately able to catch up to Sabretooth and exact his revenge in the pages of Wolverine #50.

The story here will stand completely on its own, so if you have no idea what those plots entailed, rest assured you’ve got a complete adventure in this series.”

Wolverine

Wolverine first appeared in The Incredible Hulk #180, where he battled the Jade Giant to a standstill, before joining Marvel’s X-Men in 1975. Since then, the short-tempered berserker with unbreakable claws has proven himself as one of Marvel’s most popular characters. The mutant hero was also the backbone of the X-Men film franchise, which ran from 2000 to 2020, and critics consider his solo film, Logan, one of the best superhero movies ever made.

Known as an unstoppable tank who can cut through anything, Wolverine isn’t technically one of Marvel’s most powerful heroes but he’s one of the deadliest characters on their roster. Even villains like Magneto and the Juggernaut have learned to be wary of Wolverine’s claws.
