The multiverse makes it possible for X-Men cast members from different timelines to appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but one star from the prequel films is “not interested.”

After Halle Berry played Storm in the live-action X-Men movie series, Alexandra Shipp took over the role as a younger version of the character in the prequel films X-Men: Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix. More recently, Shipp appeared in the hit film Barbie, and her latest movie, Anyone But You, hit theaters in December. While speaking with Entertainment Tonight to promote the movie, Shipp was asked about a potential return as Storm in the MCU, and she said she’d rather see someone new get the part at this point.

What If…? Director Reveals Why the X-Men Can’t Appear in the Show Yet

What If…? director Bryan Andrews reveals the obstacle standing in the way of the X-Men being allowed to appear in the Disney+ animated series.

“You know what’s kind of funny, is, no. Yeah, I am not interested,” Shipp said. “The thing is, what I love about the career that I’ve been able to form, is that I can play many different things, and at this point, I feel like I’ve done what I needed to do with Storm. I think that there are other women who could take on that role, and really kill it, and I support that.”

She continued, “But, for me, I just feel like I’m at a different place in my life. I’ve played a superhero. I’ve played a serial killer. I’ve played a hot lesbian getting married to a beautiful woman. I have played different roles, and I think that’s why I love film so much, is I get to change my mask, and I get to change what I do, and when I’ve done it, then I’ve done it.”

Which Mutant Teams Could Benefit From Debuting in X-Men ’97?

X-Men ’97 is continuing the story of the 1990s cartoon, and it can do so by bringing in other factions of mutant teams from the comic books.

For her part, Halle Berry has teased that she’s more open to returning as Storm if Marvel Studios gives her the call for a special appearance. In 2021, Berry said she would “absolutely” reprise the role, considering how Storm is a “beloved character,” though it would still have to be for a storyline that made sense.

“I would absolutely return to it, it’s a beloved character, I loved playing Storm, and people love Storm,” Berry told Vanity Fair at the time. “So, I would absolutely, you know, if we could find a version that would make sense, or a storyline that would make sense, I would absolutely do that, for sure.”

Time will tell if a previous Storm pops back up in the MCU, but it’s certainly a possibility, given the returns of Patrick Stewart’s Professor X and Kelsey Grammer’s Beast in other MCU movies.
