Sabretooth’s turn-of-the-century tale just gave fans a glimpse into the life and death of Marvel’s newest steampunk Iron Man.
After losing his beloved Dragonfire to a brazen act of brutal violence, the titular villain of Sabretooth: The Dead Don’t Talk #4 heads out into the streets of New York City looking for any fight that will bring him closer to justice. Within seconds, Sabretooth is besieged by the man behind the attack, his old employer Fisk, who is now decked out in his very own suit of high-flying, high-tech armor. Unfortunately for the up-and-coming crime lord, that same suit of armor is in no way suited to traversing the seas, and all it takes is a couple of deft strikes and one light push to send Fisk’s Iron Man sinking to a watery grave.

Sabretooth: The Dead Don’t Talk brings readers back to the early 1900s, specifically to a New York City replete with costumed gangs of would-be villains ranging from mobs of minor Masters of the Mystic Arts to a period-appropriate legion of bloodthirsty vampires. The series has also introduced a whole host of classical takes on iconic Marvel characters. Among the most prominent of these was, up until recently, the pyrokinetic assassin Dragonfire, and the Lizard-like Crocodilian, the latter of whom is still roaming the alleys of NYC while waiting for a rematch with Victor Creed.
At the outset of Sabretooth: The Dead Don’t Talk, Victor Creed was working for his fellow infamous X-Villain, Mister Sinister, within the walls of the Ravencroft Institute. There, Creed met Fyskov, or Fisk, a gangster looking to reclaim the territory he once held as the Kingpin of Five Points. After convincing Creed that there was a future of glory to be seized, and together the pair began cutting down any and all competition that rose up to oppose them, with the mutant villain taking up the moniker of Mad Dog Murphy.
Before long, Creed and Fisk had established themselves as the preeminent criminal force in Five Points. Unsurprisingly, this drew the attention of similarly superpowered forces, with Dragonfire taking on the task of cutting Mad Dog Murphy down at the behest of the city’s other gangs. Rather than killing the future Sabretooth, however, Dragonfire found a kindred spirit in the mutant powerhouse, eventually embarking upon both a fiery romance and their own attempt at building a separate criminal empire alongside one another.
