Wolverine Is Ready to Mark a Major Marvel Milestone With His Biggest Comic to Date

After a 50-year publication history, the iconic X-Men hero Wolverine is hitting a truly major milestone, with the upcoming Wolverine #8 marking the 400th issue of a Wolverine solo series at Marvel Comics. Wolverine is undeniably one of the most famous superheroes in the world – alongside other mainstream favorites like Spider-Man and Batman – making it no surprise that Logan holds the record for the most solo issues of any Marvel mutant.

The metal-clawed berserker is now on the 9th volume of his Wolverine solo series, with the very first Wolverine issue coming out in 1982, written by X-Men visionary Chris Claremont with art from the legendary Adam Kubert.

Wolverine #8 (Legacy #400), from series writer Saladin Ahmed and artist Martín Cóccolo, will be an oversized celebratory issue that will change Logan’s lore forever, with Wolverine finally coming face-to-face with the mysterious Adamantine, and the issue will also feature a bonus story written and illustrated by the talented Daniel Warren Johnson. Marvel’s announcement of Wolverine’s major milestone included gorgeous variant covers from Adam Kubert and Jerome Opena, with more to debut in the coming weeks.

Wolverine Will Be Forced To Confront His Past And His Future

From past enemies to his beloved family, everything is getting shaken up

Over his 50 years of publication history, and nearly two centuries-long life, Wolverine has made countless enemies, both as a member of the X-Men or acting as an independent hero. While many of them are dead, by Logan’s hand or not, X-Men enemies have a funny pattern of never staying dead… Martín Cóccolo’s gorgeous cover for Wolverine #8 features Lady Deathstrike, Sabretooth, Ogun, Romulus, Omega Red, Cyber, Constrictor, and Donald Pierce, all major foes for Logan stretching back to his days with Weapon X, his time spent in Japan, and his role as a character with adamantium upgrades.

Wolverine #8 will feature “a surprise return from Logan’s past,” which could mean Romulus or Ogun’s return to Marvel Comics, two of Wolverine’s biggest foes who have been dead for years. Whoever returns, they will drive, “Logan’s new pupil the Wendigo to the brink,” meaning Wolverine is going to unleash all his fury in an attempt to save the teenage Wendigo. The solicit for the upcoming issue also teases a “stunning new family revelation” that will change Wolverine’s lore forever, either adding a new member to the “Snikt Family,” or revealing a hidden secret about Laura Kinney, Akihiro, or Gabby.

Logan Will Finally Discover The Truth Behind The Adamantine

But will Wolverine be able to stop the dangerous entity?

Wolverine #8 also promises to finally see a confrontation between Wolverine and the cryptic Adamantine, a seemingly godlike entity that is obsessed with the “impure” adamantium on Earth, attempting to replace it all with the golden “adamantine.” With Deathstrike, Cyber, and Constrictor all brainwashed by the furious Adamantine, Wolverine is going to have a lot on his plate when he finally gets to meet his maker.
