Captain America: Brave New World introduces Sam Wilson’s (Anthony Mackie) rendition of Captain America on the big screen after the story of Steve Rogers’ (Chris Evans) version came to an end. The movie seems to be on its way to being a box office success, though the critical responses it has received leave much to be desired. The film also breaks away from the long-standing MCU tradition of the Marvel fanfare at the start of the opening credits, making the fans wonder about the reason behind it.
The exact reason behind Marvel’s decision not to include Fanfare in the opening credits of Captain America 4 is unclear. Notably, Marvel Fanfare is the segment in which flipping Marvel comic book pages appear on the screen. It has become a constant feature in MCU projects over the years. Despite that, Captain America: Brave New World’s opening credits don’t have that, and Marvel hasn’t yet provided any explanation for it.
One reason for the Fanfare omission can potentially be that it is supposed to denote a substantial change in the franchise going forward. Indeed, Wilson’s portrayal as Captain America on the big screen underscores a new era in the MCU. There is a possibility that Brave New World is only the first movie to not feature Fanfare, and the projects coming after it will do the same.
One thing is for certain: the omission is deliberate. It can also potentially mean the restricted nature of the narrative of the movie. Unlike other projects in the current phase of the MCU, Brave New World doesn’t necessarily explore the multiverse. Instead, it focuses on telling a more grounded story. Perhaps, it was supposed to accentuate the semi-standalone aspect of the plot, just like what the Marvel Spotlight effect does on Disney+. It could be that when an MCU project delves into the variant narrative again, the fanfare will be back.
However, these are speculations and it remains to be seen whether Marvel will officially provide an explanation for the Marvel Fanfare omission in the movie.
