That’s a wrap on What If…? after three seasons as of today’s “What If… What If?” And while the What If series finale didn’t have a classic Marvel end credits scene, it did have a, er, pre-credits scene featuring an insane array of multiverse variants of Marvel characters. Basically, a “what if the show continued?”

Spoilers past this point, but after an epic battle with the evil Watchers Council, the being now named Uatu (Jeffrey Wright) has upgraded the Exiles into Watchers as well. That includes Byrdie The Duck (Natasha Lyonne), Storm (Alison Sealy-Smith), and Kahhori (Devery Jacobs). Captain Carter (Hayley Atwell) sacrificed her life to save them all, but is likely still out there somewhere in the multiverse.

Now that they’re less Watchers and more Casual Interveners, though, they gaze into the Observational Plane and ask the only question you can ask at a moment like this: what if? And that’s what we get to see, as concept art — I mean, multiversal variants — flashes before our eyes.

Full disclosure, the montage becomes so fast and furious by the end, and the screen glows white, so someone may have frame-by-framed better than me. But here’s a rundown of every multiverse variant in the What If…? series finale, up until that point, along with notes.

Okay, let’s get into it because that What if series finale isn’t going to explain itself.

Six-Arms Spider-Man: If you can believe it, this was an actual plotline in the comics by Stan Lee and Gil Kane. Running three issues in Amazing Spider-Man, it showed what would happen if Spider-Man actually had eight limbs, like a spider.
Ghost Rider Samurai: Specifically, this seems to be the Robbie Reyes version of Ghost Rider, riding a horse and wielding a flaming sword. There was a Ghost Ronin introduced in Avengers #50 in 2021, but it’s a different design.
Ironheart Punisher? This one isn’t totally clear, but looks Riri Williams wielding a big stack of Ironheart-style weapons, dressed in a Punisher shirt. She’s also wearing sunglasses that look like Blade’s, so I don’t know what’s happening here.
Gamora, The Runaway Bride: Next up is Gamora in a wedding dress, wielding a knife. Maybe a Runaway Bride-style episode where she gets jitters the night she’s marrying Star-Lord?
Vision Moon Knight: Pretty self-explanatory! What if Vision became Moon Knight? You get it!
Weapon X Thanos: This one is pretty bonkers to think about, but we see Thanos with Wolverine’s claws, in the classic Weapon X visor. So somehow the Weapon X program experimented on Thanos and made them into their brainwashed weapon? How? And would this episode have been titled “What If… Thanos Was Canadian?” The world will never know.
Kingo Iron Man: Also pretty self-explanatory! What if Kingo from Eternals became Iron Man?
Ms. Marvel Wasp: We see Ms. Marvel wielding her hard light powers, and also with little wings behind her wearing a Wasp/Ant-Man helmet.
Maestro Supreme: It’s the Hulk, as Sorcerer Supreme… But it’s the older, bearded version of The Hulk known as The Maestro.
Scarlet The Duck? I’ll admit I spent too much time trying to figure this one out and it’s scratching at my brain, so I’ll just describe it and you let me know if you know what it is… Howard the Duck, wearing the Scarlet Witch’s crown and outfit, with a white star design on the front, holding a horned staff with a duck face. I thought maybe this was Howard as Clea, Morgan Le Fay, or maybe Agatha Harkness, but the costume — and staff — doesn’t match.
Hawkeye Dragon: Similarly, this one wasn’t quite clear but it’s a dragon-person with a bow and arrow. Perhaps from a universe where everyone is dragons? It also seems to be a purple dragon, so could be the X-Men’s Lockheed.
Jubilee Silver Surfer: What if Jubilation Lee became the Silver Surfer? Neat!
Skrull Captain America: What if Captain America was a Skrull? If he was, apparently he’d have his classic costume, but wield the Vibranium shields he had in Infinity War.
Sersi And… Tony Stark? This is a fun one: it looks like Tony Stark, in a tux, dancing with Sersi from Eternals. However, the character who may or may not be Tony is making a hand symbol like Doctor Strange; though does not have the classic Strange goatee, and instead a pencil-thin mustache. Also his arm seems to be between Sersi’s legs, so avert your children’s eyes from this one.
Deadpool With Lots Of Guns: What if Deadpool had a lot of guns? That seems to be the idea here as we see a slew of weapons loaded behind him, looking like a classic Rob Liefeld drawing.
Teen Hela With Mjolnir: This is a little hard to suss out, too, but looks like a high school-aged Hela in ripped jeans, holding Mjolnir. She’s also painted “Not Worthy” in white paint on the hammer.
Star-Lord And The Ten Rings: Another self-explanatory one: what if Star-Lord got the Ten Rings? It also could be what if Shang-Chi became Star-Lord though, I guess, since the Star-Lord mask is down.
Western Loki: Next up is Loki holding a gun and wearing a cowboy hat (and possibly a bandana as well). Pure speculation here, but perhaps there was a floated sequel to this season’s “What If… 1872?” where Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld) and Shang-Chi (Simu Liu) went up against the God of Mischief in the Old West.

After that, things move too quickly for me to catch and start to become white and bright. There’s a woman who might be a white-armored Scarlet Witch. And someone with tattered robes in either flames or electricity who could be demonic… Mephisto?? No, probably not. Beyond that, the rest of the figures are completely in shadow.

So that’s it for all the what-if scenarios we see! Bye! See you in the multiverse!
