Warning: Spoilers for Deadpool #9!it’s true. The original Deadpool, Wade Wilson, is back from the dead. Earlier this year, Marvel decided to shake things up by putting Wade in front of a new villain who found a way to neutralize his healing factor. The end result of that bloody encounter saw Deadpool die in official continuity. In the aftermath, Wade’s teenage daughter Ellie Camacho felt called to pick up the Deadpool mantle in his honor. Now, Wade Wilson’s death has already been undone as of Deadpool #9 by Cody Ziglar, Alexis Quasarano, Andrea Di Vito, GURU-eFX, and VC’s Joe Sabino.
How does it go down? The issue concludes Ellie finding a means to bring Wade back from the dead with the help of Deadpool’s ex-partner, Valentine Vuong. The pair are able to use Valentine’s powers to resurrect Wade. So yes, our mouthy mercenary is back.
While most readers expected Wade’s supposedly permanent death to always be temporary, his revival poses bigger questions revolving around if his daughter will still serve as Deadpool, as well as where the story could be going from here.
The Original Deadpool Comes Back to Life
Recapping His Death and Resurrection
This new era of Deadpool has seen Wade Wilson reunite with his daughter whilst hiring Taskmaster to train Ellie to use her newly tapped powers to become a superhero. Most importantly, the antagonist who Deadpool meets along the way is Death Grip, someone so obsessed with death that he becomes equally obsessed with Deadpool after learning the hero has a healing factor that makes him unkillable. Death Grip seeks the infamous Muramasa Blade as they are planning to absorb the weapon’s power to neutralize Wade’s healing powers.
Wade narrowly escapes what he thinks is his final showdown with Death Grip but is severely injured having lost limbs that can’t grow back. As he’s incapacitated on the sidelines, he leaves the work of his bounty-hunting business to Taskmaster and his two daughters. While his symbiote princess makes for ample backup, Wade passes the Deadpool mantle to Ellie. However, while away on a mission, Death Grip ambushes Wade to finish what he started. Ellie has been working hard to find a way to revive her father ever since.

Deadpool Officially Names the 1 Marvel Villain He’s Scared of
Despite never being afraid of literally anyone throughout his Marvel Comics career, Deadpool finally names the one villain he’s actually scared of.
That’s when she runs into her dad’s former flame, Valentine, whose mutant power is making compounds from their hands. Ellie wants to mix Valentine’s power with the magic of alchemy and her own blood to resurrect Wade. While Valentine is skeptical about the plan working, their love for Wade convinces them to try. An encounter with M.O.D.O.K. shows Ellie her healing power is limited, putting her on the brink of death, but if Valentine’s ritual works, it can heal both Ellie and Wade. Miraculously, the plan works out but not without potential side effects.
Is Ellie Still Deadpool?
It Looks Like There Will Be Two Deadpools Moving Forward
With Deadpool’s limbs intact, it looks like Wade is back to fully operating as Deadpool. Taskmaster doesn’t waste any time as moments after he’s revived, he hands Wade the paperwork for their next mission so that they can all get a move on it. The keyword here is all. Deadpool & Daughters is a family business, and so it looks like the whole family will be included in this mission: Wade (the CEO), Taskmaster (presumably second-in-command, as he was their business’ interim CEO in Wade’s absence, PR operations manager Doug Siravanta, community outreach Princess, and of course, “nepo hire” Ellie.
Starting in the next issue, Deadpool will continue fighting with his eldest daughter by his side, and readers can assume she will still be donning the mask. Wade doesn’t question the state of the mantle once he’s fully operational again, so in a lore-changing move, the Marvel Universe will be hosting two Deadpools from now on. They can be seen sharing the cover of Deadpool #10 as the dual Deadpools confirm this further. It looks like the current state of the Deadpool title will work the same as the Spider-Man mantle, with both Peter Parker and Miles Morales serving in the role at the same time.
What are the Side Effects of Deadpool’s Resurrection?
Is Ellie’s Mom Back?
The one thing that isn’t clear as of now is what exactly were the repercussions of Wade Wilson being brought back among the living. Traditionally in the Marvel Universe, dealing with magic has its consequences, and it’s been implied that this is no different. When Ellie enters the afterlife, she briefly finds her late mother and Wade’s ex, Carmelita Camacho. Carmelita was killed by The Butler in 2013’s Deadpool #18, one issue before Ellie’s first on-panel appearance.
Without elaborating, Carmelita alludes to a “gift” that Ellie is gaining from this experience that comes with a “sacrifice.” Future issues will likely reveal everything, but at the issue’s end, Ellie sees her mother (a ghost?) hailing from the shadows. The good news is that Ellie’s endeavors as a superhero and as Deadpool will continue into the next issue. The bad news is that Wade Wilson’s Deadpool may have to deal with the consequences of his daughter’s actions in bringing him back to life.
