Echo star Vincent D’Onofrio recently reaffirmed his desire to see Kingpin cross paths with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man in a future Marvel Cinematic Universe project.

Speaking with ComicBook.com, the actor — who has portrayed Wilson Fisk/Kingpin across three MCU series — revealed that he believes it makes sense for Marvel to use the fan-favorite antagonist in the next Spider-Man movie.

“I think if the powers that be want that to happen then it will happen, you know? I think there certainly hasn’t been any kind of talk that it’s not gonna happen,” D’Onofrio said. “I mean, to me that’s the direction that we should go in … But who knows? You know, you get these calls and they’re like, ‘Oh we’re doing this now.’ I’m like, ‘Oh, okay.’ You know, it’s like that.”

Although Kingpin was first introduced in the pages of Marvel Comics as a Spider-Man villain, making his debut in The Amazing Spider-Man #50, the crime lord slowly became a fan-favorite Daredevil antagonist following multiple bouts with the Man Without Fear in the 1980s and 1990s. When it came time for Marvel to sell the character’s film rights, Kingpin was lumped in with the Daredevil franchise. This led to Michael Clarke Duncan portraying him in the 2003 film, Daredevil.

When Marvel Studios regained the rights to Daredevil, Kingpin was once again used as the main antagonist for the superhero’s Netflix series. With Marvel and Sony now working together on future live-action Spider-Man movies, the door is finally open for D’Onofrio’s Kingpin to appear onscreen with Holland’s Wall-Crawler.

Ahead of any potential fight with Spider-Man, Kingpin will appear in Daredevil: Born Again, an upcoming Disney+ series that recently underwent a creative overhaul to bring it closer to the tone of the Netflix iteration. D’Onofrio will return as Kingpin, opposite Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock/Daredevil and Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/The Punisher.

Born Again is currently filming. A release date has not been announced at this time.
