This Extreme Wolverine Story Reveals How He Could Kill Colossus If He Needs To, But What He Would Have To Do Comes With a Brutal Cost

Marvel has revealed exactly how Wolverine can take down Colossus – in a brutal moment from Wolverine: Revenge, an alternate continuity tale, which pitted the traditional allies against one another in a battle that only one of them could survive. In an all-out, extreme final fight, Wolverine came out on top, but the result came at a cost to the hero.

Wolverine: Revenge #3 – written by Jonathan Hickman, with art by penciler Greg Capullo – continues the wild revenge thriller starring Wolverine, as he hunts down the characters who betrayed him at the beginning of the series. Digging a grave for the hero gone bad, Wolverine confronts Colossus for the last time .

After a violent exchange, Wolverine delivers the fatal blow to Colossus by uppercutting his claw through the traitor’s metallic head. The emotional clash between two legendary mutants of the X-Men ends with retribution and regret.

Though this series doesn’t take place in main continuity, the way Wolverine kills Colossus at the end of Wolverine: Revenge #3 gives a pretty definitive answer to who would have the upper hand in a battle between the two heroes. Other than the natural plot armor of Wolverine being the series’ titular and more popular mutant character, Piotr’s mutant power to convert his skin into an organic metal substance is still no match for Logan’s adamantium claws. Colossus is super-strong and durable, but Wolverine is still able to break through his hard exterior with a single “snikt” through his head.

With their final battle taking place in the snow, Colossus and Wolverine’s fight to the death is cold and ruthless. Colossus towers over the short but tough hero and easily throws him around, and Wolverine’s arm even gets amputated by the brute. The two mutants become the perfect new nemeses, with their nail-biting fight being even more exhilarating due to their years of friendship giving the violence in the scene real weight. When Wolverine finally takes Colossus down once and for all, it’s clear that his journey of revenge has taken a severe physical and emotional toll on the hero.

When a mission goes awry and Logan is ambushed by villains and backstabbed by former allies, Wolverine is unleashed on a quest and hell-bent on revenge. The disastrous events at the beginning of Wolverine: Revenge leave Canada wiped out and hundreds of millions of people across the world dead, and a mission by Nick Fury to save half the world ends with Captain America and the Winter Soldier killed. Avenging the Avengers, Wolverine’s loyalty being shattered gives the character free rein to exact revenge against the perpetrators of this attack in the most violent ways imaginable for a superhero story.

Working through his righteous tale of revenge by making murderous house calls to everyone involved in the attack, Wolverine slowly and inventively takes down Mastermind, Sabretooth, Omega Red, Deadpool, and saves the best and most brutal for last. Wolverine and Colossus’ emotional final fight closes out the series’ action-packed third issue, with the deadly brawl officially destroying their friendship forever. Hickman and Capullo’s series, which also has special red-band editions available to up the extreme gore factor, really gives the iconic mutant hero a reason to not pull his punches or his claws against some of his most formidable adversaries.

Marvel Has Been Exploring The Potential Of A Villainous Colossus In Multiple Continuities

Ultimate Marvel, Wolverine: Revenge, & Even The Mainstream Marvel Universe

Wolverine: Revenge isn’t the only series to feature an alternate world in Marvel that pits Colossus and Wolverine against each other this year, as the Ultimate Universe also sees a villainous version of the hero. Alongside his powerful sister Illyana Rasputin, aka Magik, the two Russian X-Men are on the sinister Maker’s Council of villains, secretly running things with a grand evil plan. With the announcement of a new Ultimate Wolverine also going up against characters who are commonly mutant friends, Colossus and Wolverine continue to be established as enemies to each other in Marvel’s larger multiverse outside Earth-616.

Since the five-issue limited series by Hickman and Capullo already saw Wolverine get revenge on those who betrayed him by the end of the third issue, the rest of the story will seemingly continue to deal with the aftermath of the major hero fallout. Though the series is not canon to the main Marvel continuity, it still gives a glimpse at how two major mutant heroes would fare against each other. As the twoX-Men are forced to battle to the death, it’s proven that all it takes is one “snikt” through the skull for Wolverine to take down Colossus.
