The following contains major spoilers for Phoenix #9, on sale now from Marvel Comics.
Jean Grey’s newest nemesis just started remaking the entire Marvel Universe from one of its most important places of power.
Phoenix #9 finds the titular hero desperately searching for Adani, the young warrior who has been almost entirely consumed by the power of the Phoenix Force, the Shadow Realm, and the Dark Gods who call the latter their home. Just as Jean is busy pushing back against the darkness, Adani is busy slipping deeper into the hatred and disdain that fuel her abilities. Unfortunately, when the two finally come face-to-face once more, there is little that the Phoenix can do but watch as Adani uses her newfound powers to begin tearing reality itself assunder from within the Nexus of All Realities itself.

First introduced in the opening story from 1972’s Fear #11, “Night of the Nether-Spawn” by Steve Gerber and Rich Buckler, the Nexus of All Realities is by far one of the most important locales in the entire Marvel Universe. The Nexus of All Realities serves as a pathway or bridge between different universes and dimensions, even those that exist between others or outside the usual bounds of space and time. In the years since its debut, the Nexus of All Realities has been a focal point for numerous Marvel Comics stories, usually those involving the monstrous Man-Thing, who stands as its foremost guardian.
Adani made her debut at the outset of Jean Grey’s latest adventure in the pages of 2024’s Phoenix #1 by Stephanie Phillips and Alessandro Miracolo. The daughter of a prominent preacher in the Universal Church of Truth, Adani always had a relatively twisted worldview. Following the murder of her father at the hands of the Dark God Perrikus, Adani’s trauma and grief opened the door to abject hatred of the universe as a whole, especially the Phoenix Force that she believed was responsible for most of the death and destruction she suffered.

Marvel Comics’ Web of Life and Destiny has its very own beating heart, and it is on the hunt for the perfect addition to its new Spider-Team.
While Jean Grey has certainly been busier than ever with her hunt for Adani, she is hardly the only villain that the Phoenix has to worry about. There is also Perrikus himself, who imbued Adani with an amount of his power during a trek to the God Quarry. Worse still, Perrikus has aligned himself with Thanos, who quickly took over the entire Galactic Council before embarking upon a whole new campaign of terror with the additional mystic strength afforded to the Mad Titan by way of the artifact known as the Warlock’s Eye.
