The MCU Just Secretly Undid A Huge Part of Spider-Man’s Tragic No Way Home Ending

An important part of Spider-Man’s tragic ending in Spider-Man: No Way Home has already been secretly undone six movies later, which can be very useful for Spider-Man’s return. The Multiverse Saga has explored the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s multiverse in different ways in movies and TV shows, and its most notable multiversal adventure to date is, arguably, Spider-Man: No Way Home. Spider-Man’s (Tom Holland) third solo movie had him dealing with villains from other parts of the multiverse (and past Spider-Man movies) and teaming up with two of his variants (Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield), but fixing his multiversal mess came with a huge price.

At the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Spider-Man asked Doctor Strange to cast a spell that would make everyone forget Peter Parker, even if that meant being completely alone after it. Strange did so and Peter was last seen starting over from scratch in a new apartment and making a new Spider-Man suit, as he also dealt with the pain of not having his friends and colleagues anymore. MCU movies after No Way Home have confirmed that Spider-Man is still remembered but no one knows who Peter Parker is, but The Marvels subtly undid part of this as Nick Fury might now know who Peter is.

The Marvels Means Nick Fury Probably Knows Spider-Man’s Secret Identity

The Marvels reunited the audience with Captain Marvel, Kamala Khan, Monica Rambeau, and Nick Fury. The latter two had been working together as part of S.A.B.E.R., an aerospace system led by Fury. Throughout The Marvels, Fury and Monica were seen checking information on tablets, with Kamala fascinated by them. Kamala also discovered that S.A.B.E.R. kept a file about her, as the organization’s database knows all about superpowered individuals, which now obviously includes Khan. Kamala even used one of these to find other young superheroes, as revealed right at the end of The Marvels where she meets Kate Bishop and mentions Cassie Lang to her.

Now, if S.A.B.E.R. has all the information about people with superpowers, and if Spider-Man is still well-known, then there must be a file about him in S.A.B.E.R.’s database. This means that Nick Fury now knows that Spider-Man is Peter Parker, thus undoing part of No Way Home’s tragic ending. Of course, this doesn’t mean that Fury remembers all those times they worked together, but it will make Spider-Man’s return in future MCU movies a lot easier.

SABER Secretly Solves Avengers 5’s Spider-Man Problem

This subtle retcon of part of Spider-Man’s No Way Home‘s ending is actually quite beneficial to the upcoming Avengers crossover events, which are expected to include Spider-Man. There has been a lot of debate and speculation among viewers about how Marvel will undo No Way Home’s final spell or manage to bring Spider-Man back to fight with his fellow heroes in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars. The most popular theories suggest a loophole in the spell, but S.A.B.E.R. and Fury knowing that Spider-Man is Peter Parker makes it all easier. The Avengers not knowing who Peter Parker is but Spider-Man still being an Avenger would have been hard to pull off, but Fury being aware of Spider-Man’s identity makes it easier for the MCU to bring him back.
