Although it has disappointed at the box office, The Marvels has still received positive reactions from fans and critics alike. The film has been praised for its humor, well-choreographed fight scenes, and the perfect balance between action and humor. For once, one of the biggest criticisms of a Marvel movie was that it wasn’t long enough!

However, the biggest highlight was the cast, specifically the trio creating the titular team. Brie Larson delivered as always as Captain Marvel/Carol Danvers, Teyonnah Parris nailed Monica Rambeau, and Iman Vellani was delightful as always as Ms. Marvel/Kamala Khan. It only makes sense that one of them would be the main figure for Marvel’s upcoming seriesMarvel Zombies.

Based on the fifth episode of season one of What If…? (2021-present) and the comic book series of the same name, Marvel Zombies is set to be one of the Marvel Studios Disney+ series for 2024. And to say that the studio has never done anything like this before is an understatement.

Not only will Marvel Zombies be one of the first animated Marvel Studios series to be rated for mature audiences, but it will also be one of the shortest with only four total episodes. Still, people are ecstatic to see their favorite heroes become zombified monsters, like Captain America and Iron Man.

This zombification doesn’t only affect the heroes, but the villains as well. This leads to some of the most terrifying creatures within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including zombie Thanos and his lackeys, Cull Obsidian and Ebon Maw.

While the plot of the show remains a mystery, fans are still excited about the show and what it could mean for other one-off projects for the MCU. And one actor from The Marvels is particularly excited to be making her mark on the landmark series.

In a recent interview with The DirectThe Marvels standout Iman Vellani revealed everything she could about the upcoming Disney+ series Marvel Zombies, including the key role that her character (Kamala Khan) will play in the series.

“We’ve done the whole thing. It was amazing. It was so much fun. And I love—there are a lot of cool characters in the Marvel Zombies show. And Kamala is kind of the center of the show. They described it to me, it’s like, ‘She’s basically the Frodo of the story.’ And I was like, ‘That’s amazing.’”

While it’s exciting to hear she’s the center of the story, Vellani is more excited about who she gets to work with. “And I get to interact and meet all these people along her journey,” Vellani teased. “And, yes, they’re only the voices, and I don’t get to hear their voices in real-time. But just, it’s my fantasies, right? Like, knowing Kamala is going to interact with some really cool people, even if it’s just animation, is so special in a lot of ways.”

The Ms. Marvel (2022) actor is referring to the “new generation” of heroes who will be joining Kamala Khan on this journey, including Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld), Shang-Chi (Simu Liu), Red Guardian (David Harbour) and many more.

With only four episodes, Marvel Zombies promises to be like nothing the Marvel Cinematic Universe has ever seen before. Not only will this be the first official step into the horror genre, but this will be the first time audiences get to see certain characters interact. And if things go well, Iman Vellani won’t be the only Marvel Comics super fan who’s excited.
