Ready to Be Supported Right Now

Working under Marvel, Michael Allred’s pen has offered his unique perspective on classic characters like Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, and Silver Surfer. The Eisner award-winning artist’s work will be collected in three limited edition portfolios, featuring rare pieces of art from Allred and art that has never been seen before. Allred is naturally humbled to have his iconic work immortalized in such a way, as much as he is proud of the work that he did for Marvel over the years. This is what he has to say about the pending release.

It’s always gratifying to create my own worlds, characters, and stories, but it’s also an electric thrill to play in the Marvel Comics sandbox, which has been a rich inspiration to my imagination since childhood. Everything I’ve done with Marvel has solidified blissful memories and epic collaborations and friendships with folks like Peter Milligan, Matt Fraction, and Dan Slott. And always with my beloved colorist Laura Allred spreading the icing on the cake. Playing with Marvel Comics’ iconic characters like the Fantastic Four, Silver Surfer, Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, as well as my own co-creations like Zeitgeist, Mister Sensitive and Doop, is layer after layer of creative dreams coming true.

It’s also worth nothing that across 200 pages of this 9 x 12 hardcover book, these pieces of art will also feature personal commentary from Michael Allred regarding his thought process in creating each piece, as well as his general thoughts on the pieces and their impact. Michael’s wife, fellow artist Laura Allred, has also had the opportunity to oversee the latest addition of “The Art of…” series of books. This is what she had to say about the upcoming collection:

I pinch myself that I get to play with Michael everyday by popping colors onto his wonderful drawings and eat up his fantastic storytelling. And what a thrill to run around in the Marvel Comics Universe, which is like hanging out with dear lifelong friends. It’s so rewarding to tap into their incredible history and, building on that past, give them our own spin. And now, what a thrill to see so many of my favorite images collected in this big, beautiful package!

His Marvel Pieces Are Some of His Best Works

Michael Allred’s signature art style is impossible to miss, but it’s easy to overlook just how far his pen reaches throughout the comic spectrum. More recently, thanks to his totally reimagined Gotham redesigns for Batman: Dark Age, readers associate some of his more recent work with DC Comics, but his Marvel art is the stuff of legends. This upcoming art collection of his work with Marvel puts a much-deserved spotlight on the art that made Allred a legend of this industry.
