The first set photos of Joseph Quinn as the Human Torch have made their way online, and the new look at the star of The Fantastic Four: First Steps has helped change my mind about his superhero suit. I am very excited to finally see Marvel’s First Family join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the near future, likely after Avengers: Secret Wars, we could finally have the Fantastic Four, the Avengers, and the X-Men interacting in live-action. That would be a dream come true, and The Fantastic Four: First Steps‘ cast inspires confidence that it will work out.

The MCU movie’s main cast consists of Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm, and Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm. After having come to know Quinn through his breakout role as Eddie Munson in Stranger Things, I feel like the actor can bring the humor and emotion that should come with the Human Torch. While I’m confident about what role the character should play in the story of Marvel’s Fantastic Four reboot, there was one aspect of his that gave me pause, and it relates to the Human Torch’s suit.

I Was Not Fond Of Johnny Storm’s MCU Fantastic Four Suit When It Was Revealed

The Human Torch’s Suit Has A Distinct Detail

While there is still no trailer for the upcoming 2025 MCU movie, as The Fantastic Four: First Steps is currently filming, Marvel Studios has shared a few teases that have sparked conversation. The first official look at the film came through concept art that revealed the MCU’s Fantastic Four cast. In the art, Reed Richards and Sue Storm have classic blue Fantastic Four costumes. Joseph Quinn’s Johnny Storm is wearing a jacket in the art, hiding his suit. However, when Marvel revealed the Human Torch’s MCU costume, I was shocked to see how different it was from Reed and Sue’s.

The cast of Marvel’s Fantastic Four reboot sent a video directly from the set of the movie to fans at D23 2024: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event. All actors were dressed as their Marvel characters, and notably, only Joseph Quinn’s Human Torch had a Fantastic Four suit on. I was surprised to see just how much white is featured on Johnny Storm’s MCU suit. The Human Torch’s Fantastic Four costume is white from the collar to the sides of his arms. At first, I was not a fan of the design choice for the character, but that has changed.

I See Now How The Human Torch’s Suit Can Be Good After Fantastic Four Set Photos

The MCU’s Fantastic Four Reboot Is Filming

My initial reaction to the suit was negative, as I’m a fan of the classic blue look of the suits from the comics. Even the Fantastic Four suits that have white elements in Marvel Comics do not typically have the color be as predominant as it is for Quinn’s Johnny Storm. However, I have come to see how that could be an interesting change for the MCU’s version of the hero. That new stance came after I got to see Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm in The Fantastic Four: First Steps set photos.

The new batch of Fantastic Four set photos shows how the white on Johnny Storm’s suit really makes it pop against the background. I feel like that aspect of the suit will make it look great onscreen. As noticed when looking at the photos, I also believe that the white on the Human Torch’s costume should make it easy to single out in big set pieces that involve the movie’s roster of super-powered characters. I can see how the suit could potentially look better onscreen than I expected, and I still could get my favorite Fantastic Four costume style.

I Still Think That We’ll Get The Traditional Fantastic Four Suit I Wanted In The Movie

It Just Won’t Be With Johnny Storm

Just because the set photos confirm that Johnny Storm’s suit will have more white than usual for the Fantastic Four, that does not mean that the other members of the team will also follow that pattern. While Marvel could have decided to make changes to the team’s costumes since releasing the first official concept art from The Fantastic Four: First Steps, I think there is something else going on. In the official concept art, while Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards and Vanessa Kirby’s Sue Storm wore blue Fantastic Four suits, there were differences between them.

The Fantastic Four have been through many looks over the years, with The Fantastic Four: First Steps being the latest to contribute to them.

The collar of Sue Storm’s suit was white, similar to how it has been in certain comic book runs. On the other hand, Reed Richards had a mostly blue suit, save for white boots and a belt, which Sue’s also featured. Based on the first look at the characters and the new updates about Joseph Quinn’s Human Torch costume, I believe that every member of the MCU’s Fantastic Four will get their own version of the superhero team’s suit, unique to them. Based on that, I could still get my preferred costume through Reed in The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
