Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Get Fury #6! Marvel Comics recently revealed that Nick Fury secretly had a daughter, one who went on a mission with the Punisher himself. Unfortunately, her Marvel career was just cut short in the most gruesomely cruel way possible, with her death being the one twist from Nick Fury’s latest storyline that no Marvel fan wanted to see.

In Get Fury #6 by Garth Ennis and Jacen Burrows, Frank Castle has just rescued Nick Fury from a North Vietnam prison during the Vietnam War – and he didn’t do it alone. The only way Castle gained access into the prison was with the help of Phuong Thuy Tram and her daughter, Bian, who just so happened to be Nick Fury’s former lover and daughter, respectively. However, just because they made it out of the prison alive, doesn’t mean they were home free.

The CIA are smuggling drugs out of Vietnam inside the caskets of fallen soldiers being shipped back to the states, and when two CIA agents discovered that Fury knew all about it, they sent Castle to kill him. They only found out later that Castle was working with Fury when he uncovered the drug-smuggling operation. So, they both had to be taken out, and Get Fury #6 shows the moment the CIA’s hit-squad tried to do just that. While Fury and Castle made it out of the firefight alive, Phuong Thuy Tram and Bian were killed in the crossfire.

Nick Fury’s Daughter was Killed Right in Front of Him, & He Didn’t Even Know It

Nick Fury Didn’t Know Bian was His Daughter, & Frank Castle Spared Him That Pain

Seeing Bian and her mother slain right after doing their part to save both Fury and Castle was heart-wrenching, especially since they risked their lives and endured horrific hardship for the promise of a better life in America – one they never got to see. However, what makes this entire situation even more tragic is the fact that Fury didn’t even know who they were, and missed the chance to meet his only daughter before she died.

Fury didn’t recognize his former lover upon his rescue, as his mind was still reeling from the immense torture he had just gone through. And he never knew he had a daughter, as Phuong Thuy Tram was going to tell him after they made it out of this situation alive. However, after they were killed, Castle didn’t have the heart to tell Fury what he’d just lost, sparing his friend the pain that Frank himself would soon endure.

Nick Fury’s Daughter Could Have Been a Perfect Next-Gen Antihero

Since Bian was introduced as Nick Fury’s daughter, it seemed as though Marvel was setting her up to become a next-gen antihero. Bian was planning to go to the United States, she had Nick Fury’s blood pumping through her veins, and she is going on a mission with the Punisher himself. Get Fury was kind of like the perfect origin story for Bian, who could have returned in a later comic during the modern age as a full-grown adult, ready to claim an antihero moniker for herself – perhaps even the Punisher’s successor.

While Bian may have made an excellent addition to Marvel Comics’ ever-growing cast of characters, sadly, it wasn’t meant to be. She helped rescue her father and ensured Castle lived long enough to eventually become the Punisher, but beyond that, Bian was as good as dead the moment she was introduced – and Nick Fury never even got to meet her.
