Summary

Gen V, the spinoff of The Boys, explores the lives of students at Godolkin University who aspire to become superheroes, but the university hides a terrible secret. The recently released blooper reel from Gen V’s first season shows the cast having fun behind the scenes, including special guests from The Boys. The Boys is building a connected universe, similar to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with references to Gen V in the upcoming fourth season, showing the franchise’s expansion.

The Boys universe gets pretty dark at times, offering a violent interpretation of the existence of superheroes, but that doesn’t mean that its actors don’t have fun on the set. And they clearly had a lot of fun on the set of Gen V, its recently released spinoff, with the newly released blooper reel from its first season proving it. Released in 2019, The Boys appeared as a response to the popularity of superhero stories by presenting a very different universe. And it worked very well, as the series has become one of Prime Video’s biggest hits, and has now begun to expand its universe. While the main show has already released three seasons with a fourth on the way, two spinoffs have now been released too. An animated series The Boys Presents: Diabolical, and Gen V, which premiered earlier this year and has already been renewed for a second installment.

Gen V is set in the same universe as The Boys, but explores the lives of students at Godolkin University, who aspire to become ‘supes’ and celebrities. But the university hides a terrible secret, and a group of students will do everything to expose it. However, the consequences of facing a powerful company like Vought, that controls Godolkin, may be worse than the problem itself.

But it’s not all bad news and horrible conspiracies in Gen V. Through the official X page of the series, the blooper reel of the first season has been released, which shows the cast having fun behind the scenes, and includes some special guests from The Boys:

Just as several characters from The Boys appeared in Gen V, such as Homelander, Soldier Boy and even Butcher in the season finale, the fourth installment of the original series will surely also include several references to Gen V. In fact, it has already been confirmed that part of the plot of the new episodes will have a lot to do with what happened in the spinoff. Which shows that The Boys is building a large connected universe, similar to the MCU.

Another thing that the Prime Video franchise has in common with that of Marvel Studios is second chances. Just as Wyatt Russell lost the role of Captain America to Chris Evans but was later able to play U.S. Agent, Chance Perdomo wanted to play a character from The Boys and didn’t get it, but is one of the stars of Gen V.

Speaking with Variety, the actor recalled his audition for Jack Quaid’s character Hughie:

“I came into this as a fan of ‘The Boys,’ I actually had originally auditioned for Hughie, years ago. I read it and I thought it was such a great script. And I was like, ‘Whether I get it or not, I still want to watch the show.’ Then I watched The Boys and I think, ‘Wow this has never been done, it’s amazing.’ So then to get Andre was such a blessing because I come into it and I get to enjoy the playground that is The Boys universe.”

Both The Boys and Gen V are available to stream on Prime Video.
